I notice that moogish sound especially just when I play a note. That's why I always have to fade in the expression for the attack of notes.Kingston wrote:I noticed that too. Also, especially on the fast runs it sometimes sounds like a moogish synth with portamento. Something with the attacks in the quick runs is missing. And also the portamento is a little bit unrealistic at times.
Maybe one more stage of that "crackle-y", sizzling sound simulation and some tweaks and more randomisation to portamento?
If you do some EQing (listen to the last demo I posted: http://www.gregjazz.com/upload/SSUpiece.mp3) you can get some good sizzle sound.
That's what's missing exactly!!! The valve sound. So when if you hold down another note and then "trill" with a note above, making use of the fact that Milestone has legato mode on (1 note of polyphony basically, so notes don't overlap), you should hear the valves switching. Perhaps if the valve movement was modelled -- so then you would also be able to do half-valve techniques (like you're doing in your demo with the real trumpet). Because when trumpet players play, the trumpet keys don't switch instantaneously.Tony Ostinato wrote: i thought about that a bit. i'm not sure if valves are being modeled and the throw of the valves, especially during fast runs, affects the feel of the tone by valving it off in between up and down positions. its very slight and subtle but i think maybe thats whats making those sections give it away.
theres no portamento, those are also fast fingered runs and thats where, since there are no tounged attacks on those notes, the valving sound might really come into play.
Hope I'm understandable. Got too excited.
