I've seen JRR and others with pre orders for Slate Digital plugins six months before they are available.

To a few at the beginning of the thread asserting that Omnisphere is overpriced - there are the people who think that, and then there are the people who actually own or have used Omnisphere and know better.
As someone who on balance is more of a preset hunter, the Sound Match and Sound Lock features sound incredible. I'm very excited to upgrade but I'm a bit confused about one aspect. An original selling point of Omnisphere was that for the price I was buying a lifetime membership into the synth including future improvements and new presets. I certainly think the upgrade is worth the value being asked for, and I look forward to supporting the continued health and growth of Spectrasonics, however having to pay for the upgrade now muddles the lifetime membership concept to me. Perhaps it was a nice but unrealistic (and ultimately limiting) idea to begin with.

Im glad I didnt buy Omni 1. So this thing has all the sounds of Omni 1 plus 3,000 new patches correct? Also, anyone think there will be some sort of sale finally? OR should i prepare for the $499 price like its been.
If I remember when Atmosphere became Omnisphere, there was a sale on Omni for a bit.

If you buy Omni 1 now you get Omni 2 as a free update I think. As well as more samples it has 400 more waveforms for its synthesizer. Lots of other things too.

I'm mostly a preset guy, so the sheer number of presets that came with Omni 1 (combined with Trilian) was worth most of the price. Add in the loads of functionality and it was worth it. Consider the price per preset when buying 3rd-party patches, and the sheer volume in Omni starts to look like a real deal. That all depends on how much of that content suits your tastes, but that is true with all soundsets as well.
I've had Omni 1 for a few years and consider having it all that time worth something, so I think I came out better than those buying it just now and getting the grace period. Those people missed out on years of having Omni 1 which has never even glitched once for me. I like a lot of the presets, so it's been a good ride for me so far. I have RMX too, so I'll be kicking in $199 when 2 is released.

My apologies for my mistake...Spip wrote:Take a look at the picture 28. You can see a menu for setting round robin number for the selected sample.Trancit wrote:To me, it seems that this is only possible to the integrated soundsources and I highly doubt, there are possibilities for multi sample import at the moment (at least there are no images showing any sample mapping (which would be essential for multisample import) anywhere...)...Spip wrote:Take a look at image 28/30. The video only showed importing a long piece of audio for using with the granular engine. Can you also import multi-samples? wavetables?
If so, then sample import is nearly useless other than for the more extrem manglers like the granular engine... means, again to be stuck with the internal soundsources ....
If it wouldn´t be from Spectrasonics, you guys would shoot any other developer down in flames for such a half baken feature implementation in nowadays...
Always funny to see this behaviour here
Is it useful to set the round robin number if you only have one sample ?
It's always funny to meet the smart guy of the day...
I've asked directly to Spectrasonics.
Here is their answer :
"No, it's intentionally not a sampler, it's more about manipulating audio files and creating interesting new sounds with them."
Bad news...

??? please let me know what im missing? what did you expect? i mean you could load in an audio file and use it as a sampler, no?
i guess on lower keys it will get played with lower pitch/speed etc.
the only question is if it is timestretched in granular mode? so each key is the same length but different pitch?

Some people like me had probably hoped for a full featured sample player with round robin and velocity layers for sampled user instruments in Omni 2, but that will not be the case, so that's one alternative less on the hybrid instrument market.

Wondering if you have any thoughts as a sound designer for Omni 2 based on what you've seen so far? Do you think you'll want to start aiming some of your efforts toward Omnisphere patches now?Sampleconstruct wrote:Some people like me had probably hoped for a full featured sample player with round robin and velocity layers for sampled user instruments in Omni 2, but that will not be the case, so that's one alternative less on the hybrid instrument market.
