So... to get rid of the previous take (in order not to hear it), after setting my region with the in/out markers, I need to "delete region" > "clear marked region of selected clips" Then cut my new take. Okay, not pretty, but it works. And then to merge it back into one wav, I need to "render" the track? Well, that's not available in demo mode, so I can't actually find out if that works. But render is what you do to accomplish that?
I don't seem to be able to put a cross-fade on the transitions either -- there being a catch-22 of cross-fades only working with overlapping clips, but the nature of this situation means that there is no overlap. Y'know, I hate to say it, but even 1997 vintage CoolEdit handled punch-ins more elegantly, with a logical procedure and auto-crossfades.
Also today (and I suppose the problem might not be Tracktion's fault, but who knows), I'm having problems with inconsistency of latency correction. Every few takes I have to fiddle with cables and run another auto-detect test. Different number every time. Vexing.
And opening a set of wavs (from yesterday, when there were no sync/latency problems) in another program, I found that they were not in sync. Which would be a problem as I'd like to be able to pass my wav files on to collaborators to dump into their systems for additional recording. These were wavs recorded from 00.00.00, not clips moved about on the timeline. The more I demo, the more problems I seem to be fumbling into. Sorry about that, but thanks again for the advice.

just a quickie - have you seen this in the latest update
http://www.kvr-vst.com/news/1917.html
"The existing contents of a track will now be muted when recording over it
(but only when the input device is set to use 'replace existing clips' mode)."
any use?

Yes, also caught this in another punch-in thread:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47565
I get more confused by the minute, heh heh.
I will probably uninstall and give the new version a whirl, but I've been giving it time to work through to the web demo download. Maybe it's already there. Haven't had time for more testing anyway.
Thanks.

Okay, I'm running the new version, and punch-in seems to be even more problematic now, unfortunately. I've left a post on that other thread regarding.

This is depressing. The program is quite good in other respects. But gimpy punch-in is not something I can work with.
Thanks.

nope, skinning will likely never happen (Tracktion is entirely vector based I believe), colour chnages may happen with V2. Jules has said he'll do ti, but I doubt it's all that high up the list of needed features.
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

yes it is not the most important thing,
even if i don't like the gui, i'd rather prefer an improvement of the musical capacities !

So Im new to tracktion, being luvin it.
Are the (midi) GM program names hard coded into trackion or can I edit / change them? My SY77 (and my library of 10,000 voices) are not "general midi" and Id like to be able to select them from the list.
How do I do this?

Is it not possible to copy midi notes from one clip to another? I've tried, but couldn't. I select the notes in the clip, say copy. T says, copied to clipboard. I move to another clip, go to clipboard, say paste, T says nothing to paste. So how do I do this? Pretty interesting sequencer if you can't even copy notes

I think copying notes is a feature that will appear in Tracktion 3.0.orltran wrote:Is it not possible to copy midi notes from one clip to another? I've tried, but couldn't.
