???

Are you sure you're talking about Ace? That's almost like saying Keira Knightley is a little ugly and fat.

Ace sounds.. well ace! Really like how the sound holds together even when adding extensive modulation etc.

Like it. CPU hit 24% at the highest that :D I saw.

Not enough warmth? How long have you been exploring Ace?Since last night/this morning? There's plenty of warmth mate..Narrow in the soundfield? No chance however it's each to their own

Care to post a dry recorded example of a synth without any effects that sounds not clinical, full of warmth and wide in the stereofield?

*bump*

ACE does not sound cold by any means. Fantastic work Urs - the new FM / cross-modulation is brilliant for hard, aggressive leads ... a really stunning sound, and the bass is huge :)

Peace,
Andy.

Thank you!

Btw. we'll be living in the Dandenongs for 2-3 weeks from December 26 to mid of January. Later on we're trying to rent a place in St. Kilda throughout February and March. So I guess we'll have a Victorian u-he user meeting around these times and places...

the soundquality should not be judged on a sound with the effects added, just the raw unneffected sound, the warmth of the oscillator -filter -vca path
is inherent in the model , you dont just add warmth with a chorus as an afterthought.
if you took for instance the analog prophet 5 , it didnt have effects onboard
yet the sound was chorussy and warm when you listened to the signal dry,
if you talk about plugins or another modular plugin like arturia modular then you will notice that the dry sound is fuller than that of ace , but maybe you went for a digital modular emulation, the sound reminds me a bit of nord modulars, for soundfield okay i agree that isnt a major factor
im not critisising your work here , i said i liked the filter characteristics
of ace and the gui , i just found that even with added effects it sounded a
bit to pinched and somewhat clinical , dont take it personal , im sure there will be plenty that will like it

Nice synth. :-)

I think in comparison to Zebra 2 it has a harder sound.
I am missing "warm" sounds in the style of Jean Michel Jarre or Zebra2.
It sounds for me like the synth sounds that Anthony Rother used in his recordings.
Maybe that my ears are missing some effects on the sounds.

I would like to have some more "bread and butter" sounds.

In that case, I'm happy to report that the temperature around these parts is increasing at a rapid pace. St. Kilda is great, could be an excellent location for a user meeting  ... U-he BBQ day at the beach, anyone? ;)

Peace,
Andy.

Damn it I want to come back again Andy! You'll love Melbourne Urs. Andy'll see you right - it was a bit colder when we were there though, almost as cold as a british summer! We still managed a few beers outside down in St Kilda though - sweeet.

ACE is neither trying to gear towards "analogue" nor towards "digital". If you find a certain patch to sound too clinical, there are plenty of means to change that (Slop, Crosstalk, Mapping Generator), and there are plenty of patches that show this.

If you find that any other plugin has more oomph, turn up the bass booster. It's what they do too to impress you, but they don't have it on the front plate.

Yet, I still have to come across an example of a usable sound from any dry recorded synthesizer that has more "warmth" and a "wider stereofield" than can be achieved by a similar patch in ACE. Honestly, I don't think such a recording exists.

Sorry but I couldn't find this info in the manual. What is the response of the multimode filter outputs? Is it the same automatically as the LP or is it fixed at 2 or 4 poles?

Ah, you mean BP/HP/BR... I would have to look, but I think it's 2 poles each.
