I’ve used them on a few CDs my friend produced. They sound great and fit in with other tracks very well.

I have me moments, but I'm not Ronnie James Dio, or Yngwie f**king Malmsteen.

There are presets with all kinds of processing styles applied. If you turn off all the verbs and delays and just eq and compress using the in built tools , the drums sounds very good. There are enough velocity layers to sound realistic. I do find the crash cymbals decay a little faster than I would like. The BFD3 kits are more detailed with more velocity layers and I like their cymbals but I get better results with AD2. Modalics is a nice surprise. It’s one kit only but they did a great job with it.

I meant the music! To be honest though, if I had the cash I'd probably have 90ft dragon on stage too. Why not?revvy wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:36 pmRonnie wasn’t pompous, he was a gent.donkey tugger wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:32 pmI have me moments, but I'm not Ronnie James Dio, or Yngwie f**king Malmsteen.![]()

Going back to AD2 and the debate. What I particularly do like about it is the huge amount of editability and modulation options with stuff like the individual drum velocity curves, velocity to attack, filter, volume etc, and that many of the parameters (though not all....
) are open for automation so you can dynamically mix stuff quite easily in terms soft/hard sections etc.
Don't think the presets (whilst nice) give an inkling of what's possible with some effort really delving in.

Has anyone already tried out the new ADPack Vintage Dead?

I bought it yesterday. I'd been looking for a dry kit like this for ages that didn't have any aggressive snare type hits for regular neutral kind of stuff and this was it. Once I played the "Dead Neon" sound demo on the site I immediately bought it. Exactly what I was looking for to round off all these other drum plugins I have.

Do you need a full version license for Addictive Drums 2 in order to use ADPacks? There are some really nice ADPacks / Collections that I would like to use, but the full version of Addictive Drums is too expensive for my budget.

To my ear it sounds like the snare in the main part really needs to be either longer or shorter, as is I find it very grating. Though I'd suppose I wouldn't usually be fixating my listening on the snare in a track like that. Shorter would probably be better---and a lot quieter, if it's meant to be more unobtrusive scaffolding and supporting ear candy.dblock wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2024 3:42 pm I bought it yesterday. Personally I still have 3 ADPaks to choose from the Custom XL I bought more than 5 years ago... this one is interesting but I personally just don't like a lot of the sounds I'm hearing in the demos. Some I do though. Maybe I'll keep holding out for future releases... I've moved more towards electronic and obvious sample-based drums or rhythmic loops anyway.

I’m also wondering about this.BackInCheck wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2024 4:38 pm Do you need a full version license for Addictive Drums 2 in order to use ADPacks? Some hardware bundles AD2 with the Studio Rock pack and you can get unused NFR licenses cheaply.
But I think the best deal is to wait for AD2 Custom Collection to go on sale. With that you can freely choose 3 ADpacks, Kitpieces and MIDI packs and you don't have to do everything at once. Just start with what you're sure and pick the rest later.

Looking at the XLN page under my products of which I only have XO and one piano from Addictive keys,it shows all the things that I could have a license for, there is no option for a license for the Addictive Drums player. Based on this I’m assuming buying an AD pack gives you a license for that pack and the player is free or included with it. This is simply a guess though and I have also been trying to find an answer to this questionBackInCheck wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2024 4:38 pm Do you need a full version license for Addictive Drums 2 in order to use ADPacks? AD is "production ready" and very tailored presets for specific genres than other products.jens wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 4:00 pmYes, makes sense - and there's of course nothing wrong about this - but if one is looking for a less polished / pompous / distanced sound which is perhaps rawer and/or more intimate / natural, I think SD3 can be the more apporpriate choice.rod_zero wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 3:44 pm Considering who owns XLN he probably wanted a product that is good and fast delivering drums for pop, and didn't care much about "realism", I am sure there are AD drums all over taylor swift, katy perry and britney spears tracks.
But we had this dicussion before and the AD2-afficionados will keep disagreeing with me - and that's of course perfectly fine too.
it is more clear when you compare the expansions, SD3 is all about rock, metal and progressive, even the percussion pack is orchestra tailored, so i think SD3 main market is bands that don't have the budget to record properly.
ADpaks offer a wider range: electronic, latin percussion, and sounds for disco and current pop genres. Their clients produce a wider range of genres and realism is not the center of their production.
They also have this "indie" vibe kits with vintage dry and boutique mallets, so you can emulate Air and Sigur Ros.

I happen to completely disagree.rod_zero wrote: Fri Nov 01, 2024 6:52 amAD is "production ready" and very tailored presets for specific genres than other products.jens wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 4:00 pmYes, makes sense - and there's of course nothing wrong about this - but if one is looking for a less polished / pompous / distanced sound which is perhaps rawer and/or more intimate / natural, I think SD3 can be the more apporpriate choice.rod_zero wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 3:44 pm Considering who owns XLN he probably wanted a product that is good and fast delivering drums for pop, and didn't care much about "realism", I am sure there are AD drums all over taylor swift, katy perry and britney spears tracks.

It's of course perfectly fine if this assessment/distinction works for you - but it doesn't align with the facts in any way.
