How about a 'second option' of a hexagonal harmonic table, some of us like the one that's there!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

A note and drum step sequencer. This video from 8:20 show the basics of Cirklon and its fast workflow. Things like the note step length is brilliant.

That works, too. :D

HY-SEQ16x3 is easily the best freeware step sequencer around. It’s a 16-step sequencer with note, velocity, gate, mute, randomize and probability controls for each step. Other cool features include global randomization for the entire sequence (with separate randomize buttons for note values, velocity, gate, etc.), sequence playback direction (forward, backward, bounce and random), sequence length and start step, as well as the global scale setting.
...
Now, all of the functionality mentioned above (and shown in our demo video) comes with the free version of HY-SEQ16. The paid version comes with three sequencer units (hence the name HY-SEQ16x3) and two LFO units. Needless to say, the versatility offered by the commercial version of the plugin is absolutely insane. Whether you need a sequencer for triggering multiple instruments, or a sequencing powerhouse for building evolving synth sequences and polyrhythms, you can’t go wrong with paying the extra $28 for the advanced HY-SEQ16x3 version.
...
HY-SEQ16 is available for free download via HY-Plugins (8.36 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows).

Plugin step sequencers just aren't as versatile as having it built into the DAW. Something similar to Sonar's step sequencer mode, only with touch friendly buttons, would be great.

That looks nifty but I pefer the fully integrated approach Sonar took, rather than a device. I'd rather be able to simply switch from piano roll view to step sequencer view and back. Really useful for composing.

And why a device wouldn't be able to do that?

Hmmm 5 huh?

Well yeah fades. But they are coming...
I bounced a track down and went futher in studio-one. And it has VCA faders!
So for me (for now :hihi: ) VCA faders. One step closer for me to have it all in 1 DAW.
(Yes i know,... group levels. Not always the solution here. )

Oh and to sneak one in on 2: UPDATE the waveforms!!! Djeez they look strange. And sometimes there some pixels and you think is that sound? A tick? What is it? When zooming in and looping those pixels :hihi: , you dont hear a thing.

On 3: Remember size of pop-up browser.! (for sample/foley browsing here, i use this now: https://resonic.at/ free and a ultra fast browser for PC only! Again everything in 1 DAW!)

Aaaaand on 4: Doubleclick (or ALT+CTRL click or something)on black group clip in arranger it FOLDS/UNFOLDS the group. Now i have to click on that group icon. Yup lazy but ey when in the flow you want to be there as long as possible.

Well number 5: An invite to the beta of version 2.

No integrated option on your poll, I see. In any case, I'd much prefer it to be integrated. Sonar nailed it. A fullscreen touch interface in tablet mode vs a tiny device? The choice is clear.

Easy, just imagine the step sequencer as a front-end of the piano roll, just like FL Studio... See: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 5#p6147398

Full Rewire Slave support, i.e. able to host VSTs in slave mode.
I would drop Ableton Live in a heartbeat if this was implemented.

Not all of us are willing to give up our Dinosaur DAWs for the very arguably more electronic music oriented DAWs like Bitwig, ReNoise, Live etc.

If your preference is a device, why not use a 3rd party plugin?

In any case, the interface needs the option to be touchable with fingertip sized square(not closely spaced rectangular) buttons and fingertip wide sliders.

Sonar's approach:

In that order

1.) ableton-style grain delay effect (most wanted!!!!)
2.) Midi recall for bounced regions
3.) Easy track freeze
4.) Easy to see indicator when one/some of your sandboxed plugins crashed (I often don't see it in large projects)
5.) AU support, so I can use my sinevibes plug-ins (one can dream...)

regarding 3., I've already developed a good bounce/deactivate workflow in Bitwig, but sometimes I just want to preserve some CPU quickly and a "simple" freeze button would be quite helpful for that.
