interesting thread. being a pc user, i ignored Zebra completely but Filterscape sounded interesting. or rather, i checked the mp3 demos and it sounds Amazing. then i checked Zebra and it sounds bad-ass too.

i haven't had any sort of Mac envy in ages until now.

Thanks arp_laszlo!

However, to recap: The first and most important step for Zebra and Filterscape to migrate to pc starts with VST compatibility of my audio plugin engine.

I always said that the engine is highly portable. I think this needs some prove:

They work!

I expect to have Filterscape VST Mac go beta this week. When it's done, only step 2 is left, the graphics & files layer for Win 8)

Wow. Urs..
you are genious.
I didn't expect to see vst osx version of filterscape this soon.
too fast :D

Yeah, hehe, it's weird, innit?

Writing the VST layer was pretty easy. Most of it was studying the VST SDK and decoding what exactly is going on there. You know, my modular stuff is a bit more generic in a way than VST typically allows. So I had to go into the depths of VST and add some little workarounds. Nothing serious, but I'm happy that it's possible.

They still lack support for presets, automation and scrollwheel. No prob though, will do it today :)

;) Urs

More good news:

Filterscape.vst for MacOS X has reached beta!

The testers have tried to break it for one hour now, but no luck. It seems to be too stable :hihi:

Some minor issues with syncing and stuff, but well, we'll get that ironed out pretty easily, huh?

;) Urs

Well, Mysti, hehehe, I just come back from the pub... and the first crash happened at one of the beta outskirts. Dunno what it is, but we'll see...

And Steinberg people sent me a bunch of code and suggestions for future compatibility... getting complex... but well... another day or two ;)

So when can we pre-order Filterscape for the PC? ;-)

When I get something going :!:

The VST side is pretty finished now. Beta phase went quite good so far, a few crashes due to stupid little bugs - mostly fixed, I hope. Gotta add two or three VST-specific features that I neglected and... done.

The Windows gui side isn't a trivial thing though, as I have little to no experience in Win development. Fortunately, I got some helpful pieces of sample code and a special library for this. The main hurdle is replacing my beloved MacOS X CoreGraphics layer with that certain library. If - if! - that works, the final port will be trivial -> and all future plugins will run on Win out of the box, unless they depend on platform specific code, which none of my plugins do so far.

I'll keep you posted!

Cheers,

;) Urs
