A couple of questions:
1. Velocity "sticks" (or resets to 0) sometimes when i select several notes and alter the velocity of the notes by moving the velocity slider. Am i doing something wrong?
2. How do i set up the external audio editor? I'm lucky enough to have SoundForge 7 (rocks!) installed on my computer. Where do i select what program Tracktion will use to edit audio (ctrl-w)?
Scale is something i am missing from Sonar.
Scale Velocity for example (instant snare rolls).
Thanks!

I know when I select a group of notes and edit their velocity with the slider, it works fine the first time. But if I DONT deselect them and select them again to make another change, it starts the changes from the new values. So they're not absolute values for some reason120mg wrote:A couple of questions:

In the Project tab you just click on any audio file. Then you choose Edit audio file, and "set editor to use".120mg wrote: 2. How do i set up the external audio editor? If you're in the edit already, click on the audio clip, then choose "view source info" from the propierties dialog. Then you choose Edit audio file, and "set editor to use".

Yes, thats exactly what happens, first time ok but then they might be set to 0.AD80 wrote:I know when I select a group of notes and edit their velocity with the slider, it works fine the first time. Not a big problem though, i just wanted to confirm that i'm not the only one

Simple question really, love the package got me working again. Want to purchase the full version, does it support ADAT inputs? I have a frontier Dakota and want to be able to record audio in, 8 tracks at a time?

OK, I'm the "I LOVE Tracktion guy," this thing works how I think... I love It
1 weirdness I'm encountering, am getting stuck midi notes, plus spurious notes (usually repeats of notes that were struck just recently) in my midi recordings. Example: I lay down two octave whole notes. On play back the whole notes sound, then a beat or two later (while 1st notes are still going) the notes sound again, and are stuck notes that do not shut off.... They do not exist in the timeline, and do not always sound,(85% of the time they do tho')
Mac G4/ OSX 3 / Midiman 2x2 going out to a Yamaha tg-33
Latest version of Tracktion demo (is this a demo thing??)
All other midi proggys do not show this weirdness. I am ready to buy, but I would love some feedback before I go and give'em the credit card #.
Diggin on it except for this...

I have 2 questions for any tracktion experts around here. I've bought it a few months ago but only recently got into it.
Here goes:
1)
How exactly are tracks summed in tracktion? I have a drumloop going on track 1 and I'm playing enigmatron (fxpansion) on track 2 and when track 2 clips, I can hear the drumbeat clipping also. Shouldn't track 2 be the only thing clipping in the mix?
2) I have a 2 bar drumbeat that I stretched using alt-drag on track 1 and I wanna go trought the small subdivision on the drumbeat to cut it up. So I'm using ctrl-drag the purple line along the beat but something seems wrong. From beat 1 to 3, it skips the small subdivision and also from beat 7 to 9. In between those beats, the purple line goes trough each subdivision. (depending on the zoom level).
Now if the beat isn't stretched, everything is fine.
That clearly seems to be a bug (or is it?). Just wondering if anybody has this behavior.

This may or may not be your answer, but are you using the clip quantize, and are there very very short notes that somehow got recorded with the long notes?.1 weirdness I'm encountering, am getting stuck midi notes, plus spurious notes (usually repeats of notes that were struck just recently) in my midi recordings. Example: I lay down two octave whole notes. i only ask because I had a problem where if I recorded a bit of MIDI via keyboard, then quantized it using the clip quanitze features, short notes would be squeezed to nearly zero and would exhibit strange behaviours such as you describe. I couldn't see them in the edit view until I had zoomed right in.
May be completely not the answer but only thing I can think of.
It's not your hardware is it? Or some kind of latency issue?
I have found Ts MIDI to be fairly buggy - but as an audio tool it's brilliant!

I thought that kinda thing might be it, so I setup a new file spcifically to test this... two whole notes only, (no quantize)and what's weird is that spurious (sp?) notes happen at different times on play back.... and occasionally, not at all... weird.
Updated midi/audio drivers etc.
The one thing I have NOt tried is just penciling them in and see if I can repeat it... (just not the pencil it in kinda guy... so will try and get ack to ya'll
Seems to only be an issue with outboard synths, tried w/ TG-33 and DD-55,
use an internal s/w synth seems to work good.
thanks!

I am experimenting with exporting 24 bit wavs from Tracktion to 16 bit wavs for conversion to mp3 in GoldWave. I am trying out Voxengo's Elephant for dithering purposes.
However, when I go to "Export" and choose audio file I have the option to choose 16 bit. So I was wondering...does Tracktion just crunch the 24 bits into 16 bits or does it actually offer dithering?
Or am I doing this right: Apply the Elephant VST at the end of the master chain, set dither to 16 bit, export song as 16 bit?
(I'm a complete newbie when it comes to mastering, but I am starting to know my way around Tracktion).

Hi.
I downloaded a demo version of Traction because everyone was raving about it's great user interface, and despite reading the manual, the quick start guide, and this forum, I can't seem to make it make one peep!
I'm on a Mac running Panther and I was led to believe it ran VST instruments, but how this is accomplished eludes me completely. I have quite literally pressed every button, followed every link within the program just in attempt to get something to happen, but nada. If there's anyone out there who could help me get up and running with this thing I'd sure appreciate it!
Thanks,
Kevin K.

This is easy - go to the Settings pane (click on the tab on the top of the Tracktion window) and select "Plugins". Do a rescan if necessary. Make sure your VST paths are listed - mine are:kevinonkeys wrote:Hi.

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
/Users/kovacs/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
Do a rescan with the "Rescan plugin directories". I have "always check for new plugins at startup" checked, as well as "enable rewire".
To add a VST instrument or effect, open a project, click on the "new edit #1" thingy, the click-and-drag on the "new filter..." button in the top right of the window and drop it on the mixer part of the relevant track.
At least this works fine for me!
