Browsing these pictures I see that many of those music corners have computer box right next to the chair.
no because I do not use an open mic in that area, If I'm going to do vox or mic my cab it's done in my big walk in closet 20 feet away. My computer is pretty quiet though, it was built by PCaudiolabs in a very silent case and the fridge isn't noisy either (but it's only a few months old). At my old place where I was for 15 years there was no fridge near me, I have not noticed a difference and I'm pretty anal about noise both eletrical and ambient.

If you think it causes problems when using my monitors, it doesn't...you can't hear it, the boogie fan is louder naturally. There is no electrical interference and the only noise that way I would get is from my Boogie (guitar picking up the transformer) but that is where I store my amp, not use it...it's on wheels and can be moved with two fingers.

Not all of us have the luxury of having a house and a big room to deal with, should we stop making music because of that? I do not have a noise issue, what makes you think every computer is noisy? Is your computer so noisy that it causes you problems?

Come to think of it my laptops are both louder than my DAW and a lot of people also use Laptops

Edit:

You'll have to forgive me Zombie Queen...I'm still somewhat baffled by your question about computer noise (not the fridge). I have two soundcards, one is an Emu 1820 and the other is a Presonus Firestudio 26/26. Neither came with cables longer than two and half feet long, when I worked retail at Mars music (which was a superstore with everything on display) every desk had the computer right there, many audio pc compaines make rackmount computers, muse is rackmount, omnirax makes desks with a space for the computer...I'm kind of thinking that just about everybody has their computer near their chair/desk. Actually how much signal loss would there be if I moved my computer far away? Would it be beneficial or destructive?

While it would be nice to have a dedicated machine room, my closet is currently being used as a vocal/amp booth. My computer is also very quite... ambient noise from outside is louder than the fans in my machine.

I didn't mean to sound offensive. I was just wondering how other people here perceive this, is it out of necessity, or it is just no problem.

I do find computer noise annoying and it has nothing to do with recording stuff off the microphone, it just irritates me, I happen to work on the computer most of the day and in the long run I can't bear the noise. My computer is rather quiet, I did a good deal of tweaking it, low speed big fans all on rubber suspensions, hard drive on suspension too, fanless graphics and such, but I could still hear it. I had opportunity to solve the problem when I was moving to new house, where I put the computer case in utility room, 5 meters away behind a concrete wall, it helped.
However my new refrigerator happens to be rather noisy, when it's in the mood it sings strange serenades, I thought of recording it sometime, but I don't have a cable long enough.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come as offended as I'm not. The question really caught me off guard, I never hear the computer and I don't hear the fridge...the dishwasher yes, if my wife started the dishwasher while I was working I would not be happy. I'd get her back though, when she fell asleep I'd take two flashlights, shine them at her eyes and yell LOOKOUT, TRUCK :hihi:

edit: that fridge is something though, it freezes stuff in the back and we have it turned all the way down.

As "ambient noise" has been mentioned, it might be important factor on my attitude, I moved to far suburbs, practically to the woods, it's quite silent around here, especially in the winter, occasionally a dog howls to the moon, but at the moment the nosiest thing I can hear is my CRT monitor, maybe it sort of amplifies all little sounds.

Ironically we just moved, from 15 feet from the busiest street around and a major ambulance route for several communities (at one end of a bridge over the rive to the hospital, so it was noisy) to a place in the country I call my treehouse. Children, birds, peepers in the summer, squirrels, a few dogs and a train whistle off in the distance is all we hear. It's cool because we have this long balcony and we're on the top floor, the balcony is feet from a punch of pretty good size pine trees...hence 'treehouse'...you can see the sliding doors in the background of one of those pictures and see the pines. The room between my studio and balcony (obviously the living room) is also sunken which is cool :)

That's cool, in a couple of months your senses will sharpen and you will find yourself building a bunker or drilling the ceiling to hide the computer case... :hihi: The first days we moved, I couldn't sleep, because it was too silent, now I'm irritated by my neighbor's washing machine. We should have a "let's see some apartment pics" thread now...

I bought a 4 space rack that was deep so I ripped it into two less deep 4 space rackes ;)

I present to you almost the worlds smallest and most minimal music production studio: Zombie Slugs Music! :-o :-o

Image

Two keyboards, the stand, and my laptop on a laptop desk. Doesn't get a lot more minimal than that unless you dump the keyboards and sequence everything, or do it all with loops. :hihi: :P

I have a similar setup - single midi keyboard, midi drumpad controller, into laptop... although I also have a 30" monitor hooked up to the laptop...

Niiiccceee. The 17in. screen on the Toshiba is workable, although I've considered hooking up a 21in. just for the mixer view.

I'd have to sell the bed, though. :-o :?
