I was allready suspecting it might be a real amp.
Those sound quite "small" very often when listened to solo-ed.
It's no great sound nonetheless. Probably useful but not great. I think I got better results from some new Vox a while ago (don't have the files, sorry, has been a studio job).
But then, I don't exactly believe in vintage gear anyways.
Oh well, only sometimes... just had an opportunity to buy some cherry red Strat (I think a '68 model, so it's not pre-CBS, but hey), almost in mint condition. That one was pretty great. Won't pay 15,000 Euro for it though.

Ya know I still think Amplitube 1 sounds great, and I have an Orange Rocker 30 Valve combo sitting right beside me so its not as if I dont have anything to compare it to.
I also think Amplitube sounds better in some ways than guitar rig 1 (not sure about 2).
I also thought squids sample sounded great.

You didn't play it right Squids ...
I mean you revealed it too early.
C'mon guys anyone who's ever recorded a tube amp with a 57 knows that this is the real thing (if you're still playing with us Squids then AT2 is really working)
This doesn't mean that you have to like the sound but this is the Vox sound and esp. this is the sound you get when you mic an amp. That's all.
You may think that I'm on the safe side saying these things after Squids said it's a real amp but even if I didn't knew it I'd say that this sounds like a real recording of an amp I dont like so much (yes I'm not a Vox fan)
PS I didn't like AT1 and I'm not a potential buyer of AT2 (too expensive for a hobbyist). I'm happy that I can record my tube amp and if I want or have to go the ampsim route simulanalog JCM900 is still the king in my book.

Excellent. ThanksSquids wrote:About a week.MickGael wrote:BumpMickGael wrote:Squids, let's say that it does not ship until mid-March - how long do you think it will be before copies ship to you and you can then start shipping out to AT1 owners?

Sorry if it made you look bad though Burny. That's the unfortunate part of who ever falls into the OTHER trap which was mine. Thanks for being a good sport. I'll make up for it with a great deal for you on AT2!~BURNY~ wrote:Well, I guess you made a valid point.

Yes, I may have revealed it too early. Perhaps we could have seen how many more people would say "sounds fake!"zeoy wrote:You didn't play it right Squids ...

Hehe 8/10 from me is a very high mark.Squids wrote:Plasticy? Bollocks. It's a $10,000. Jimmy Page Les Paul through a Vox AC30 cranked to 10 with a freakin' SM57 in front of it. Doesn't get any more REAL than that. 8/10? That's even a real JMI Vox from the mid 60's. Costs around $3,000 on the market. This one even belonged to a well known recording musician. I bought it from Ed Cherney.
Honestly i've heard (subjectively) better sound coming from a $400 guitar , $600 amp and an old sm57.
What i think you did is you (innocently and unconsiously) made a clip that is not as good as it could be - i wonder how your clip would sound if you were not financially motivated to convince us that AT2 is as good as a real thing.

Ha ha! Good job Squids. I think people forget what mic'd amps sound like. They may know what a real amp on a record sounds like in the context of a mix, and they might know what a guitar amp sounds like sitting in the same room with them. But I think that a lot of the time they either don't know, or forget what an amp sounds like with a few mics in front plugged into a some pre's really sounds like. It'd be interesting to hear a test similar to yours (not asking you to do this) where there are actually a few different mics thrown in front of various amps, then stacked up randomly against various amp sims.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Squids , sorry but i think your sample is not representing the sound we are talking about in the best way it could , to my ears the sound is muddy a bit plastic yes i would say and doesnt have that AC30 crisp touch. I dont own any heavy weight equipement so i cant post the my samples of the sound the way i hear it but i have the oportumity to play whit exactly same gear you used sometimes and the sound i get is not like yours , its less muddy and has more crisp , but i have to admit i like your sound , its sounds way more vintage , but maybe its about amp age but if i had to make a bet i wouldnt be so sure its all about that.
I would say that it get way closer to this ( same guitar and mic as you used ) , and you have to hear there is a bit differnce
