Does anyone know if you need a license for the latest version of Live to qualify for the crossgrade?
I have a license for Live 9 Suite and would like to go for the Cubase Pro 10 option.
I've tried contacting Steinberg support in the past and have had to wait forever for a reply, so I don't fancy my chances of getting any info from them soon.

There seems to be no limititation. Only Standard Or Suite, no version string.neuroleptick wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 2:18 pm Does anyone know if you need a license for the latest version of Live to qualify for the crossgrade?

For Reason they allow a crossgrade only from version 6 upwards. So it seems all Live versions are possible.

Cubase Pro 10 seems to require "30 GB free HD space"---any idea how much of that can be placed on a secondary HD without significantly affecting core functionality? My SSD is filling up....

Is Cubase 10 Pro still seen as one of the best DAWs? I mean with Studio One 4 and Live 10 on the market, are the Midi tools so much better still?
Interesting features of course are control room/monitoring. And possible better tools for composing orchestral sequences. Right?

I was hoping that was the case, and someone on the Steinberg forum seems to back it up (I posted the same query there).
Think I might grab that crossgrade!

There are a couple of things Cubase does that you will not find elsewhere. The control room setup is fairly unique and extremely flexible. Plus, Steinberg's software is really the only one that has a strong focus on providing fully integrated workflows for multichannel audio. Cubase goes up to 5.1 surround and various immersive audio formats for VR. Nuendo extends that to virtually anything that is in use today. This goes beyond what ProTools Ultimate offers.dermage wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 3:37 pm Is Cubase 10 Pro still seen as one of the best DAWs? I never got the excitement for the Midi tools though. I did not think they were that much better than what you have in most other DAWs these days.

Don´t forget expression maps. If you work a lot with sample libraries and scoring is on your daily task list than there isn´t anything better than expression maps to control the plethora of instrument articulations.mgw38 wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 4:28 pm I never got the excitement for the Midi tools though. Logical Editor
Program and batch process infinite macros for complex DAW actions and workflow tasks.
And things like seamless integration with Dorico and Wavelab..
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even after using Cubase for almost 20 years, I never found it to be as intuitive as Studio One. Plus, Steinberg seems to reinvent it every 3-5 years, forcing you to learn a whole new workflow.

The "Cubase 10" component of Cubase 10 Pro seems to require < 800 MB. Could I install everything else on a secondary HD without major performance issues? Or do "Components" include things that should go on the SSD or else create major performance issues?...
What about Halion---is there a way to install the Halion program on my SSD and the samples / instrument data on secondary internal HD, and about how much memory would Halion take up?

Thanks for your inputs on Cubase.
I've watched some videos now, and there seem to be differences. Cubase is still great in workflow when composing orchestral stuff with many tracks it seems. At least compared to Live 10.
How is orchestral stuff better handled in Cubase vs Studio One, I'm not into that one so deep yet?
One of the big disadvantages for me is the use of a single-activation-dongle. Although I have 2 elicensers, I would have to actually buy 2 licenses to use it in the studio or at home/on the road. (Yes I know I could always take one with me, but I also like the aspect of safety with a 2nd backup activation/dongle in case of theft/loss/damage)

I have everything on an external SSD. No problems here. However, I am not quite sure if the installer allows you to install it directly to the external drive. I think you need to install it locally first and can then move it with the Steinberg library manager. I could be wrong though.Ou_Tis wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 5:15 pm The "Cubase 10" component of Cubase 10 Pro seems to require < 800 MB. I'm not a big Cubase fan. I use it because of the Chord track but it takes me forever to figure out how to do anything and their manual is not easy to use. Whereas I bought Studio One 4 and was able to put down midi right away, similar to ProTools. If it weren't for the fact that not everything comes in AAX, I probably would just stick with ProTools, but most of the midi tools don't work with it.
But for the crossgrade price, I would probably grab it if you are thinking about changing. Totally different workflow from Ableton.

From what I understand, if you are going to be using large track counts, which is something orchestral stuff can have, Cubase handles it better than Studio One. I am not sure at what point it becomes an issue though. I think we are talking in the hundreds. Something about the way you can disable tracks when not needed. Also, the expression maps are useful if you want multiple articulations on a track. But I think it is limited to so many tracks. I've heard some people have come up against the number of expression maps that can be used.dermage wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 5:16 pm Thanks for your inputs on Cubase.
