I see no difference between blindly following a book, and blindly following a person. Both are equally insane.

The suicide bomber is an extreme example of course, but life is full of the smaller harmful effects of religion. (sexual abstinence actually kills you, for example.)

I would also like to point out the fact that many manic depressives do not want to be cured because they consider the depressive 'lows' to be a fair price to pay for the euphoric 'highs' they also experience..

personally, i'm an athiest, and as such i don't believe there is a 'god'. however, i do believe in some things about how the universe runs, and ultimately if there is some kind of reason behind the process, or if the things that 'are' get reused in some way (energy transfer, idea transfer) then there's probably some fundamental process governing the whole lot; something that happens here happens the same somewhere else, or the basic rules that science has uncovered would seem to apply for all places such that we can imagine. if such things are as we make out, then it's fair enough to give it a name.

personally, i believe that the universe is infinite in scale- not in dimensions as we are able to percieve (i.e. it just keeps going and going and going, although i'm not saying that's NOT the case), but principally in SCALE; it is entirely impossible for us to be properly aware of what lies above and below our relative position in the scale of the universe, but it's nice and humbling to imagine it. as particles get smaller, we lose the ability to see into their operations. those smaller particles (i personally believe) are no smaller than us (or even the universe) in scope; everything that happens within them is just too small for us to ever observe. just imagine classic fractal patterns. you can keep rendering them closer and closer and never find less detail, but from a single scale position, it's impossible to make out how intricate it gets.

the same goes the other way of course :D we can see just a tiny little bit of some enormous process. and we'll never be big enough to step outside of it, though we may find ways to move around to other parts of it.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

In my experience, those who need to actually preach about these issues by inserting religion into a forum signature.... well, you get the idea... :)
I don't actually. Finish the sentence please..
*yawn* You like to push the buttons of other people. It is evident in your choice of signature.

But I really don't care. You can say whatever you like in your sig. I don't know why other readers don't simply ignore it if they don't agree with it.

There is a flanger in Tracktion, but you can't see it or hear it, or sense it in any way: you just have to take my word for it. Have faith!

zOap wrote:This is the most lolly thread you guys have ever started. I don't know how you can defend this as a Tracktion thread(RM), but.

Someone alot smarter than me once said "I'd wish that love could create the same enthusiasm as hate". In this case it seems that the people who believes in love the most forget to love those who hate.

IIRs, I actually love your sig, it's funny but thoughtful. People who takes offence from this either has a lac of humour or to thight to step out of his/hers spiritual path to actually see what's goiong on in the world.

Religion is the main reason why we have wars, besides money offcourse, and greed. So how can we not say that belief in god is a mental illness?

God, if there is such thing, does care about every human. Rich or not, whether he believes in god or not. But how can you blame people for having second thoughts when you see all the pain and evilness in the world?

Now, should a Flanger be part of the Tracktion suite? Well, there is alooooot of them on the net, for free, which does the job. Certainly, T could have bundled one of them, but hey, some fun we need, right?
OK, I stayed out until now. This has required restraint for some months. I've looked at IIRs sig since before he was IIRs, and I have kept quiet about it - sharing many cordial technical exchanges back and forth with IIRs and his former id on KVR.

However - zoap does a reasonable summary of the point - with one oxymoron:

He claims IIRs signature is funny. Well, it's only funny to some.

zOAp then states that if there is a God, then he cares about everyone - whether those He cares for believe in Him or not. This is absolutely true. Why would believing in such a God be a form of mental illness? That's the oxymoron presented. And it shows why the signature can be offensive, without there being a problem with those whom it offends.

A major confusion exists with the line of thinking presented by IIRs: That confusion is that God=man's religion

There is no argument that religion(s) have been responsible for the lion's share of suffering in the world. History has proven this to be fact.

But religion is not God.

I often thought I should exchange my sig for:

"Disbelief in God is the ultimate form of arrogance"

The explanation to this statement would be: If God does in fact exist, certainly He is greater is ways that my puny human mind cannot comprehend. My disbelief in Him, and my ultimate trust in me, myself and I, and just my own understanding of reality is a fateful arrogance that is pretty hard to get around.

But I never did go that way as you can see in my signature below.

We can go around and around on this topic - it never really goes well on-line in a public exchange - and really, these discussions belong over in Hyde Park.

Besides, I agree with zoap - there are many free flangers available and I've never been disappointed one didn't come bundled in T.

No, religion is belief in god.

Or more specifically, it is belief in god by the great unwashed, and ruthless exploitation of such by the educated priest/parasite class.

You said yourself, if god does exist he is way beyond our puny comprehension. What makes you think he cares if we believe or not? The only people who stand to gain from the widespread belief in god & the afterlife are the people who materially benefit from such belief in this life.

If somebody put some God crap in their sig, I wouldn't be offended. I'd just think a bit less of them, ignore it and move on. So, everybody, STFU. :tantrum:

Interesting chat-up line! But - er, how?

Or do you mean that a population which doesn't reproduce will die out? In which case it's a very weak "actually".

I don't use flangers so I hadn't noticed there wasn't one.

wank you very much

no flange in t2, use classic flanger

why would you even want to use those little t2 fx anyways? hahaha!

beliefs are only beliefs. They're not illnesses, and don't be offended by some unlucky dolt who just wants to cause controversy.

I consider myself lucky to be much saner than you Ron ;)

And I'm not just trying to be controversial, my sig is a belief that I hold with at least as much conviction as any of you religious nuts have for your choisen faith. But my belief has the added merit of actually fitting the facts as I percieve them.
