i have some examples if anyone can host?

i did myself a lil shoot out from a more dance orientated perspective, and used compression to get a single hit (snare or kik) as punchy as i could through various comps (crunchessor, gco, marquis, sx comp, renaisance, vw). really shows how different they all sound, esp the releases.

as its only single hits the files wont ammount to any more than 2mb or so. maybe best of they whole thing was just presented as a downloadable zip?

I think that the sound clips of the "real" 1176 shows that all the aspects of the compressor haven't been captured yet. For example, I love the distortion you get when you crank the input gain in no-button-mode. It can add great warmth to vocals!

in other words, a cheapo stomp box can achive you the same effect, and you will have lots more to choose from and more control over the mush.

but yeah, with the 1176 smack compression you can definitely hear the why digital just doesn't cut it yet.

Yeah I know what distortion is. But I don't agree all stomp boxes sound the same. One of my favourites spells 1-1-7-6

BTW: Thanx bmanic, for the 1176 examples! This is a perfect reminder why I don't like this machine. The noButtons Perc examples sounds best to me, no joke. I just don't like that pumping of the 1176.

No, not really!

Sorry for using the expression warmth. I know it's a abstract (and sometimes provocative) one. Sometimes I get struck with the lack of good, objective descriptions of what I do like in a special sound (who doesn't?). At these times, warmth seems like a handy expression. Perhaps it's not.

And I do respect that you don't find the no-button-sound appealing. IMHO, I think the sample is as overdone as the some-buttons ones. It's not that likely I would use any of them in a mix.
