THAT is the most wonderful thing I've watched in ages!
The edits, the old bald hippy in the background, the clock that's always two minutes of eight, the background tape deck with various transport directions....the information....the whole thing!!
I wish American documentaries were as entertaining and informative.

I don't mean to overreact, but you never, NEVER get to see this type of documentary when you're landlocked in the middle of Oklahoma.
I knew there were creative techniques behind the pre-synth era soundtracks, and I've read all about them, but to see a doc with archive film is really great! This was very informative to me.

It was also reassuring to see that Walter really should have been Wendy all along!

Thanks for that. I've really become intrigued with the BBC Radiophonics workshop after reading about the Dr Who theme tune creation and seeing that programme. Also, that track (ziwzih ziwzih 00-00-00), albeit only 1:45 long, and nowadays very simple to produce (maybe too simple? leading to it never existing if they had all the kit we have back then.....one must wonder if we have it TOO good nowadays) sounds so damn cool to my ears. I have to get that CD.

The clock thing is a reference to the opening of the Workshop; 2 minutes to 8 is 19:58... Started in 1958

Aye, thanks for posting it as people said, really enjoyable watch, going to burn it to a CD and take it to my uncle who was thriving in the moog age, he'll really appreciate it.
John Baker was really an incredible composer.

An hour of my time very well spent indeed.

I'm in awe of these people's abilities and inventiveness.
I was part of the generation that grew up with the Workshop as the soundtrack to my youth and I remember, as a kid, dreaming of someday being a part of that fantastic sound creation team. I guess I never got over that desire.

That radio interview's good as well - especially cos it actually features some of the tracks in their entirety. Including the White Noise track!

The White Noise album's still available on CD at a very reasonable price...I really must get around to buying it, before that one gets deleted as well.

That was great lovesign, thanks for the heads-up. The bearded guy, the crazy reel to reel, the clock, the retro sci-fi movement of the camera were fantastic little touches to a very informative documentary. Anyone noticed the voice effect on the first word of each interview (something like a looping delay with a low-pass filter opening ...)?

Out of interest, does anyone know how to convert the WMV file so it can be played on a Mac ? A friend of mine is gagging to see this.
