I'm only now reading this, so here's my 2 Euro Cents:
Don't buy Ram from Apple. It's where they make some nice extra money. Have your tried the refurb store?

You can get your Powerbook way cheaper than 2300. You might wanna cancel your order.
And something about track count: How many tracks you can record depends almost entirely on the speed and cache size of the hd you're using. So, with a fast hd on the firewire 800 interface 16 tracks should be very easy. Even the firewire 400 interface might get you this.
2 gig of Ram won't do so much about the track count anyway. It's mostly when you use samplers. But from your posted requirements that might not be the case. On my Mac Mini, with modest use of samples, 1 Gig is enough to get me about 14 tracks on the ssssllloow internal drive.

i had a "fall", things got knocked against other things and things got broken. that's all i can say right now. phil spector was not present. i'm fine physically. charges are pending. i don't want to get into specifics. but everyone is ok. that's the important thing here.rockstar_not wrote:What blew up? what i need it to do is simply record 16 at once and be able to do a limited amount of overdubs with some plugs. it looks like ill be using the built in plugs to start with until i can get something to run my waves plugs on or either give up those plugs and go with the powercore, which looks way more useful than the waves plugs. to be completely honest, i've stopped using waves, other than the occasional R-Vox and 2 band R-Eq. that was another expensive mistake. haha! what lessons we learn in our younger years eh?
these wave arts plugs look nice too, very light cpu useage. ill have to shop prices. the powercore is a definite future purchase though.
what other osx compatible plugs are you guys getting low cpu useage from that are actually useable?

Luxonix 1310 Multi-Effect is nice (and free). Greenoak has a bunch of free stuff (effects and Crystal synth). WWAYM has a free EQ that doesn't use much CPU. Nomad FActory has a free bundle (3 VST effects). I plan on getting some PSP plugins - the demos were impressive (Vintage Warmer will be the first one I get). Of the stuff I've tried and bought, WaveArts seems to be the best value so far in terms of price/performance hit/quality of results. I didn't mention instruments, since I was thinking you were after effects for now.
