Not really. But, in a way, yes. Anyone who purchases the Squids Tron Vol. 1 -AND- joins the group buy will get a free update for all of those formats. So, from that standpoint it is combined.

Ok. Well this can be the official unofficial next Squids Tron Vol. 2 Group Buy gossip thread. ;)

Here's what I am thinking. The new version of Squids Tron Vol. 1 is now on a DVD instead of 4 discs. We can fit a few more formats on there as well soon for people that join the Squids Tron Vol. 2 Group Buy that will happen either in March or April.

So, let's talk a bit about what would be ON Squids Tron Vol. 2 As some of you know, I did a lot of tron sampling for artists like Smashing Pumpkins, Crowded House/Neil Finn etc. A lot of that material is on Vol. 1 as well as Joni Mitchell's Mk5 (really the same as an M400 X 2 but... fun that there are only 10-20 in existence and one is owned by Paul McCartney and another by Rick Wakeman) and the Moody Blues' Chamberlin M-4. There was also the Ampex tube machine masters recorded at Michael Penn's studio on there as well.

So, vol. 2 will have even MORE Chamberlin sounds including a lot of rhythms and accompaniment plus misc things that were never even released! That's because I bought a bunch of prototypes directly from a guy who worked for Harry Chamberlin. I have reels and reels of tapes (some that haven't even been run off to see what is on them yet and some that have). I had Zac Rae who at the time was a young lad just starting out and now plays keys for Alanis and Fiona (well done dude) run off some of them from his rare M200 (I also had one as well from the prototype guy but mine was just a skeleton, his was in better shape... there were probably only 5 ever made). So, anyway, at least this is chipping away at all of that stuff. One of these days I need to get access to a tape machine that can run them off. I was going to BUY the machine off of Patrick Warren and Michael Penn but they FREAKIN' GOT RID OF IT!!!!! (I mean, practically dumped it). Arrrrgh! That refigerator was even just a cool old thing to look at as ART! Oh well.

Then there's more Mellotron stuff and even though there'll be some crossover (more violin, flutes etc.), each Mellotron sounded different from the tapes being worn or the way they went across the heads (alignment wasn't too exact on those things ;) but that was also part of the sound... and the "unwanted" warble had loads of charm in retrospect as well! WOW and flutta! ;) ). But, also some other Mellotron sounds too.

There is definitely more funky lofi LOOP material on the Squids Tron Vol. 2 than the previous one. Not only is there a TON of super RARE loops from the POWERHOUSE 8-Track Drum Machine (sold by Sound Sales- Mellotron) featuring FUNKY 70's grooves but also some Chamberlin Rhythmate, Optigan and maybe even some Talentmaker loops on there. There could even be some stuff from the Optigan masters on there too. We'll see.

But, here's where it's gonna get GOOD. ;) Because I know the people interested in this have an appreciation for some odd keyboards we can do an awesome bonus. Imagine if as a reward for 100 people joining you all got an EXTRA sound set called "Sonic Rarities" ;) (Sonic Rerarity? :D ) featuring:

Clavioline (tube synth)
Novachord (tube synth)
Lowrey Organ (Cheesola baby)
Rheem Keebass (Jon Brion's... also used by Devo)
Moog Theramin
360 Systems (Digital Mellotron ;) )
RMI Keyboard Computer
RMI Electra Piano (through a phase 100 in organ mode.... Tony Banks- the ideal thing to layer with a tron ;) )
Hohner Cymbalet (I have a good story about this instrument but basically it is a cross between a Pianet N and a harpsichord!!!)
Baldiwn Electric Harpsichord (Dream On by Aerosmith and also the Beatles).

Now, of course, a lot of these are old and grungy instruments that only people with advanced taste in estoric lofi vintage collectible instruments would appreciate. There HAS to be more than a hundred of you out there!!!!

You know, we can experiment here. If you guys want to try rounding up some interest ahead of time before there is a group buy (I noticed you've already started on the Cakewalk forum) then you might have a better chance of higher numbers (thus hitting that 100 mark and getting the extra library). If people are prepared for it then these "out of the blue" product Group Buys have more of a chance. People can maybe save up a little or whatever they need to do to get ready for it. In the meantime we need some time to custom make these things!!! We don't want to start the group buy and make people wait too long (some people don't understand how the group buys work where your card gets charged only at the end and feel like there is too much time between the time they joined and the time it shipped... but when a product is custom-made with additional formats it is tough so we need to experiment with perhaps with this idea).

I have Trons vol. 1 and would love to be in on a vol. 2 buy. Can't get enough of those trons... and what's nice about having a big collection is that you can pick and choose the specific sound that best suits the piece you are working on.

In terms of timing... if it's not for another few weeks, that would be good.

I'm New here, (just dropping by really...) but Dale asked on the P5 forum and I'm here to second the motion for sfz for Dimension (Pro)(ab)users like myself .
I also plan on Picking up Rapture as soon as it's out and .sfz is going to be supported there as well. Just my 2 cents...

SFZ format for Dale for Dimension and then Sampletank/Kontakt format for me would be most cool. I might be interested in the Reason format too. That way between our two sets we'll have ALL the bases covered.

So, I "third" the motion for sfz.

If you guys want SFZ sounds then imagine thousands of SR multisamples and loops in SFZ format for your Project 5 and Dimension Pros on www.esoundz.com Pretty soon you won't have to imagine. We're converting the best of the Sonic Refill series over to SFZ for a start. If that goes well then there's more where that came from.

Cheers Cakeheads!

I think Squids needs to start a Mellotron division of his company: Tronic Rerarity :D

LOL,,, I'm a Cheesehead/Cakehead,,,, and,,,,, an eSoundz Fanboy
:D oh,,, and a sound junky,,,,

This is great news Squids. I tend to use Sampletank for the most part, but there are things that I definately like about Dimension. I know you like it too, because you've said so many times, and I'm glad that you are going to provide extra content for it!!

All your stories about these instruments really take me back. These sounds are from the instruments that were used by the artists I grew up loving. When you talk about the Moody Blues, Rick Wakeman (Yes), Joni Mitchell, Paul Mc Cartney,,, you're right on my street. Hey, do you remember Rick Wakeman's early recordings with the Strawbs?? Sonik Synth 2 hits me the same way.

Just think what those guys went through maintaining those instruments. While it's a hard compairson to make, the mellotron was probably second only to a pipe organ in the number of mechanical components involved in the music making process.

As a kid, dreamed of getting a mellotron, but wow, those puppies were pricey!!! It would be fun as your putting this together, to talk about how much these instruments originally cost, the price of the tape sets, and some stories about some of the nightmares people who owned these instruments had to endure.

I'm looking forward to this GB. I want you to do it immediately, but I understand that it takes time. Looks like we have a good core of interested people.

really wish this one was coming in June/July but as long as it will be still available at the regular price after the groupbuy is expired I'll definitely be getting it around that time (strained finances won't permit anything sooner :( ).

(hopefully I would still be able to get the proposed "Sonic Rareties" disc also)

I have the M-Tron already... but now I am having a difficult talking myself out of getting this collection. It's an obsession almost like buying more guitars... must have more sounds...
