If Live went/goes dongle personally i'd simple not upgade & continue to use the app as it until some other app (without a dongle) met my needs.

Release is touted for Septemeber at the moment.prene wrote:Any release dates or more info, and whats the hybrid audio engine about.
"The hybrid audio engine is a combination of a high latency and low latency engines. The low latency part uses live monitoring with effects with the smallest latencies. The high latency engine is for more effective system utilisation Aux & Surround functions "
I translated this from the German PDF http://www.samplitude.de/de/pdf/Samplitude9.pdf so it's not 100% accurate. Whether this means that the dual engine works at the same time I'm not sure.

>I think the general consensus is that we'll see multi-processor support in 9.1 or 9.2, but not 9.0.
We've put some more efforts into this and now we've got dual CPU support for the new low latency
ASIO engine in 9.0 already. Since the new hybrid engine uses another thread for object
and economy track processing anyway, the audio engine alone can benefit of 3
CPUs now. Together with the previously exisiting GUI, disc and video processing
threads this should enhance the performance on all currently existing multi CPU
architectures. Of course we plan to improve the scaling also for 4 and more CPUs
in the future.
>Any mention of hardware inserts?
No currently not. But the new hybrid audio engine is our first one which allows low latency
routing of live input (including external FX returns) through the complete mixer
including the master, so a very essential improvement in this area is already
there.

>Maybe Acid style looping?
No, more kind of a live style looping
Its like an loop overdub automation with automatic adaption of project tempo to the current
loops. Maybe not useful for everyone, but very useful for jamming alone or using it
as a "musical sketchbook", e.g. for testing harmonical structures. In contrary to the similar
hardware devices (Echoplex) you can save the complete jamming history as an
arrangement to use it for futher work.

I don't remember how long this goes back in time but V8 came already with full VST automation. Plus, it's one of the few hosts that allow adjustments of the granularity (VST buffer size). Where did you get the 7bit info from? Perhaps you know more than me here, then I'd be curious to knowTRN76 wrote: - So, does Samplitude v9 support real VST automation now, or is it still 7bit resolution?

Samplitude have never had real VST automation.
I posted this at the samplitude forums a long time ago, and after quite some confusion, it turned out I was right.
To do a quick test, draw a automation envelope that start from buttom and goes to the top over a minute or two - Play it and watch the knob automate (maybe use a knob where you can see the values too), you will notice the knob does step upwards, and isnt smooth at all. I calculated the automation-steps to be 7bit and it turned out it is.
This had nothing to do with the setup-options in samplitude, where there is the VST Buffer - this is just how frequent the update is, and not the bitdepth(if I can call it that, for the picky KVR'er) resolution.
But, what do I know. Maybe this is fixed with version > v8.0 ?
If you do own Samplitude v8 and have the latest patch, please do the test for me and tell me how it looks like.

I haven't tried that test but I looked in the helpfile of V8 and it says this:
VST automation resolution: Time constant (in milliseconds) for sending current controller data: When starting playback, the controller data is transmitted after this time has lapsed if its value changes (within the frame of 7bit MIDI resolution). During playback the VST controller values are retrieved within this time gap and are sent to the respective VST plug-in.
So it looks like it's 7bit like you said. We'll have to see if things change in V9.

I didn't know since I haven't used automation that extensive. I'll ask Volker tomorrow about the current state.
