Load/Save VST presets & banks (*.fxp & *.fxb) is what does it for me, that and the new look.
But it's RTFM again after I log off, senso has been busy...

Back into the whirlwind, despite the soundcard problems, my insomnia allowed 2 hours of sleep but now it's Usine time!

how does this compare to Bidule then?

I don't think it's much like Bidule in the limited experience I have with the both of them. Course, now that I've got unlocked Usine I don't know what I'll think once I learn it more deeply. Bidule is the one with the weird morphing preset field, right?

it's strength probably lies more in the FFT domain but it's too vast to explain in a nutshell really.. the idea is the same though: real time manipulation of audio and midi, creation of complex 'instruments' or effects for studio or live work

I think you're thinking of Audiomulchs metasurface, maybe?runagate wrote:Bidule is the one with the weird morphing preset field, right?
I need another bash at Usine, obviously some serious flexibility there if I can get my head around the key concepts.
There's obviously a lot of talk on the forum about Usines live potential but is anyone using it in a more studio based setting? I'm thinking it could be ideal for me; set up strange sound patches (processed guitar, midi parts etc.) then, rather than render to audio and arrange them like I do at the moment, just arrange them in Usines sequencer.

Reads like you've already gotten your "head around the key concepts".GaryG wrote:I'm thinking it could be ideal for me; set up strange sound patches (processed guitar, midi parts etc.) then, rather than render to audio and arrange them like I do at the moment, just arrange them in Usines sequencer.

You're one of those folks who'd feel at home using any host, huh?

it's similar, but instead of having one big open patch area you make small patches and stick them into a patch grid and the visual interface for the patches you build is alot more flexable than the bidule sliders. I haven't got into usine as much as I'd like too but I'd say they share similar concepts but each has a unique workflow.spaceman wrote:how does this compare to Bidule then?

um, not really.bobsled wrote:You're one of those folks who'd feel at home using any host, huh?
I flit around between hosts, trying different things, never mastering any of them... I stay with Tracktion as it's generally the best host for me workflow-wise. I guess I wander when I want to do something more experimental and Ts rack filters aren't up to the job. I guess I like the idea of having one host that does it all but that's being a tad idealistic maybe...

To me aside from the modularity the main strength of Usine is how you get channel strips that only display the GUI controls of the VSTs that you want to see whil eyou're playing live instead of a giant mass of the VSTs actual gui elements that are impossible to navigate.
