OK Fine. Here is a NEW thread about rudeness, then.

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

Is rudeness a problem here?

oh, get off it - do you really think the webweasel could hold a candle against the Caped Crusader and his faithful Wonderboy in full speed:

don't think so

I don't think that KVR (or the theory forum particularly) is exactly rude in comparison to other forums, but it's certainly sort of rude when you compare it to other music and software related forums.
Still, that wouldn't bother me too much personally (I'm with subz on that one, finding it sort of amusing), but it certainly bothers a few people who might be put off.

However, what bothers me indeed is that KVR (or its members, for the matter) is sometimes "unfair". This is especially true when some newbies come in to ask something that appears to be not too bright. An "Oh no, not that debate again" answer isn't exactly rude - but it's unfair towards newbies. Because for them it might not be "again" but probably a first timer.
When spotting such things, I'm just asking myself why certain people (usually regulars) aren't simply staying out of the thread. There's no need to blame someone just because he/she is asking for the best tarnce VSTis. Really, not at all.
Either point them to the VSTis in question, post some links to previous threads on the subject or - yeah - simply stay out of the thread.
There's other ways to be unfair as well, of course. And they also seem to happen here at KVR...

IMO, "true" rudeness can be sorted out. By friendly asking the person in question to change his/her behaviour. By temporary bans. By permanent bans.
Unfairness however is much tougher to sort out. The people in question don't exactly ignore the forum rules. But some of them certainly harm the appearance of KVR just as much as some rude boys.

I have to admit that sometimes I've been falling for it as well. Sorry for that. Really.

Anyways, I still like KVR a lot. But that "you gotta be a regular before you're allowed to ask questions or comment on anything" attitude is really questionable.

I agree with you Sascha...In addition, the loss of the "Search" function has made it hard for even intrepid searchers to find some of these threads...even if they really wanted to.

some good points, on a similar note to the "you gotta be a reg to post..." i found the "new users need ten posts before the can post" ideas that were discussed while back very funny, they were more anti-spam ideas. im guilty of saying "old topic" and stuff to posters but normally i give links, or reference.

KVR is nice.

The search function is back up now.

As far as a search function goes, I can still see why people would rather ask rather than search.

I know there have been times when I've wasted a good deal of time trying to find something particular via a search engine only to have to ask the question anyway (try to find a good consistent base for a non-alcoholic cordial recipe for example argh!).

Maybe if I had all day, I'd do it that way, but it doesn't take all day to ignore a thread if it's "another dumb question" post, so I'd prefer to ask and have those inclined to answer answer me.

Other times, I do just search - it kinda depends on what the question is and how I imagine I would search for the answer.
