Backing up d4dirty here… A guitar has a distinct sound the exact sound is replicated how many tens of millions of times, just played in a different sequence (looking at it simplistically)…. I can't think of many baseline sounds that are totally 'unique'…
I still hate this dam song however!

What a complete and utter load of shit is written on this page.
wiooi:
A guitar has a distinct sound? Bullshit. You can process it in just as many ways as you can a synth. You can run the f**king thing through a synth!
d4dirty:
In my opinion your "rule"; and all the morons that follow it; are responsible for the incredible amount of tasteless and derivitive electronic music that exists.
I can hardly imagine people like trentmoller or james holden and brian eno thinking that the only rule to live by in electronic music is "Copy. Learn. Make. Use".
What a f**king load of shit.

an instrument merely "sounds like" the person who plays it. If it sounds boring or played out, well...

The people you are referring to, they have are only using part of the idea, copy and use. Everyone else is learning and evolving. Every single piece of work, be it art or music of any genre has been inspired from another piece of work in some way or another.
I remember hearing FreeStyler's track, I'm in love with you and thinking it was a wicked bass line. Then I heard in an old 70's track in my dad's vinyl collection. FreeStylers did it better, but the idea came from somewhere.
To think your beloved producers don't take ideas from other peoples music is naive.
Cheers,
Chris
