I must say that I'm loving the snare, and I plan on adding the rest. I'm liking the way these sound. I do the kind of music that would benefit from this, and even though I have lots of drums, I have very few options so far that fit EXACTLY what I do. It seems that these might be extremely helpful.

I'll be listening to more stuff.

Oh, thanks for reminding me: it's Testing Day here at the bduffy mansion. :hihi:

I got a chance to play with these snare samples, and I'm really enjoying them. When you first open them, I was like, "what the..?" until I remembered that these are intended to be mixed in with your existing snare for polish. I grabbed the Z4 snare and flew it in a tune, and it works great. Again I find myself wishing I'd had one more month to mix my album, and I might have to pick up the rest of these samples, especially if they're in K2 now!

Check it:

Iris - no samples

Iris - Steve Slate Snare

Kind of a crowded, shit-headphone mix, I know, but LOVE the spank on this snare! Just what I'm looking for.

I was also testing out the new AD Fluid plug-in, but that's another thread... :scared:

A quick tip for the Z4 samples:

Insert the Z1 on the snare track via Drumagog.

Load an FX Aux in your DAW and insert a Drumagog.

Load the Z4 in that FX Aux Drumagog.

Go back to your snare track with the Z1 sample loaded and bring up(as much as you like)the FX Aux with the Z4 sample loaded and...voila! Z4 room sound blended into your snare track.

Bduffy that sounds cool, I would have never have thought to mix SNARE 19 in with that snare but lo and behold, it added a nice midrange punch to it. Thanks for posting.

Scott, thanks for the tutorial on the Z4, its really easy to use and sounds awesome.

Here is another demo with Snare19, this time with Kick4, and listen to Z4 on the verse and how I automate the Z4 to INCREASE for the chorus.. This is 100% replaced samples:

Shows you what I know! I just heard it and thought, "that's exactly what I was going for", at least in terms of that snappy, short-reverb sound. Could probably match it closer in the full package. ;)

Nice! Do you automate to different velocities of the Z4 (that's what I was doing in my verse/choruses, along with gain), or is that the same velocity-level of Z4, riding the fader?

yeah man your mix definitely showed how two different toned snares can really compliment each other. I just actually went to the console and mixed in SNARE19 with this low fat snare that was a bit weak and it did the same deal, added that much needed mid punch. So thanks again on that.

With the latest demo, the drummer was hitting the snare really hard so all the samples that were triggered for the Z1 were the CRACKS. Therefore, I adjusted the AUX send on the Z1 track pretty high so that when it triggered the Z4 on the aux channel, all the Z4s cracks were being triggered as well. The key is to adjust the Aux send so that the same velocity Z1 and Z4 are being triggered. For automation, I just automated the return fader of the Z4 aux track. Here it is again:

Cool! My instinct is to reach for the sound that I'm missing. Now I'm anxious to try completely replacing a snare with the full "Z" combination... :hihi:

All the Z4 cracks? Like, 5 samples at once? I'll have to set up the Z-method properly and try this out...I'm a little confused by this, (well, I get that the Z1 + Z4 velocities have to fire simultaneously), but I'm always a burnout on Friday evening...

Let me clarify, one Z4 crack at a time, but all the Z4s triggered were cracks BECAUSE the Z1s were cracks. So when the Z1 fires a crack, you need to make sure the Z4 is doing the same since those samples go together. When the Z1 is doing a HARD, you'll want the Z4 to do this as well and so on.

Right, well, that makes perfect sense! Like I said, Friday = :drunk:

I just tried using only your samples to replace a snare, sounds great! I can get a very pro-sounding snare quickly! I think I heard this snare on the last Finger Eleven record, no? :P

OK, I'm headin' out for drinks. I'll be exploring the Z-method more tomorrow. Very cool stuff, Mr Slate. :tu:

Yeah, thanks for this. I look forward to hearing them.

Given all the Kvr guys who have downloaded the sample, you'd think some of you would be posting mixes! Four FREE ELITE MIXER packages will be won by Thursday. All you have to do is post a little mp3 clip showing your use of the free SNARE 19 sample and you're in the drawing.

I think it's been kind of slow the past couple of days here. At least it seems like it for me. I've been doing overnights at work this week and there's not much going on around here whenever I check in.
