Hi,

it's indeed like runagate said, his pre-buy opened the same opportunity for everyone. And the price I set as first is too low, so after the beta time
the retail price will be 45.00 USD (but you will also have the Demo to download)

News:

Open Guitar Beta updated, now Steel and Strat sounds are ready 100%

Currently Open Guitar includes these carefully programmed patterns:

Am7 - D7.mid
Am7 - Em7 strum.mid
Am7 - Em7 var.mid
Am7 - Em7.mid
Am7 - Em.mid
Bm bass + strum var.mid
Bm bass + strum.mid
D - D - F# - Em - G.mid
D/A - Bm strum.mid
D strum bass.mid
D strum var.mid

The patterns are 2, 4 or 8 bars longs, with accurate strumming and arpeggios,
hammer on and pull off embelishments. You can play them at any tempo and with
any sound as they are MIDI files.

There will be many more in the release package, but this is a very time consuming job, so I will not cover ALL the possible chords, but you can learn form these and make your own or simply traspose them,

Thanks so much to those who already bought it, I'm looking forward to your feedback to know where improvements for the plugins are necessary.
Note: if you bought Open Guitar but you are not receiving the updates by e-mail, please let me know here.

First impressions

Only played around at the moment to see how everything worked so I may be missing a couple of things

Sound:

Really really nice, can be aggressive or delicate.

GUI:

Okay. Simple and straight forward. I personally don't like the wood effect used as it too close grained but hey I'm a fussy bastard

Stabilty:

No crashes, typically between 2 and 4% CPU used on a quadcore although it has spiked at 21% on a couple of occasions but that could be down to a background task on my pc

Minor Problems:

Does string need to display directory name or the wav extension? If its too long then sample name starts to spread over GUI or gets truncated.

Moving width control retriggers sound ?from buffer?

Seems to be a bit of dead space at the top & bottom of Sus Gain slider? Does it need to go down to 0 or go so far up?

I've had a couple of occasions of no sound whilst playing very softly. Seems dependant on the Sus Gain control and velocities below 33.

Other Thoughts & Feature Requests:

Me being me I immediately started to try and get it to sound like something else - by applying effects to the string samples themselves in a wave editor you can get some weird and wonderful sounds (as well as some downright horrible ones)

An option to unload a string a la Seasick Steve

If the strings are all named just as E1.wav etc then an option to load a set of strings in 1 go from a directory would be handy.

I personally would like an event LED for which string is being played. Whilst I'm being unreasonable a GUI with an oscillascope for each string would be cool (Oh and a flying car, a couple of million pounds and a supermodel girlfriend)

Looking forward to hearing the Nylon strings.

Overall I'd give this 8 out of 10

Steve

N.B. please excuse any stupidity on my part as I'm knackered <grin>

Thanks for the feesback Steve (some stupidity is fun, <grin>)

The Sus Gain slider now acts as Velocity Gate as well, not sure if that's useful or not:

Users?!

BTW added Twelve String sound, next is Nylon,

Beleive it or not I purchased Open Guitar on 9/9/08 and have yet to install and play with it, sad but true. But I beleive the 12 string is new and wasn't included back then so that would mean there probably is an update we should've received via email.

Post

I have the 12 string.
liqh will probably chime in and reassure us with sure method for getting updates. Sometimes it takes him awhile due to workload..

Will that be in e-mail notification with new link?

Have you played with Lemonstrum? It's a freebie in development, although dev has been too busy lately to work on it. If its capabilities were integrated with Open Guitar, maybe we could have immediate strum functionality.
But I think Lemonstrum wants to keep his free or for donation of $1.

Just an idea.
