I'll give it a try. But I'm a Mainstage user. I wonder if there is a way to use LinuxSampler with Mainstage??

I hate to admit it, but I guess this is just gonna be over my head. I downloaded Linuxsampler and installed it. I can get the AU to open, but there isn't a way to load the sfz. So after a little reading I installed Fantasia and Qsampler and followed the readme. Nothing doing. I can't find any way to load the darn sfz. It's too bad the EXS file doesn't work because I would really like to use SalamanderGrand, but I guess at this point I give up. I don't think I'm gonna be able to get this working. Bummed.

Aaaah a late reply but, did you download the latest snapshot?? they only have .sfz support in the development version for the moment..

look here; http://download.linuxsampler.org/packag ... snapshots/

Edit; I just noticed I linked to the stable release without thinking it doesn't have sfz support just yet, sry for that :P

Not sure if here is the right place.
I generated some statistics on the samples I thought some of you might find interesting.

1) Loudness
The first plot is the energy of each samples first 0.6 seconds (normalized by the average over all samples).
The second plot is loudness (A-weighted energy) of each samples first 0.6 seconds.
In theory, the energy released for a given velocity should be the same for each key (flat curve).
I think the decreasing highest notes energy can be explained by harmonics getting too high to be sampled by the microphone (which is not an issue since it's also over human hearing range).
In any case, some samples (e.g. 57 (A3)) are objectively too quiet or too loud and I want to see how much fixing this affects playback.

2) Pitch
This plots shows offsets in cents to equal temperament (estimated from each samples first 0.6 seconds).
Ideally this should roughly follow Railsback curve to account for inharmonicity, but deviation from the curve can be expected to because of factors like strings thickness, hammer positions, etc...

My next step is to try to reduce the variability in order to make this library more playable.
While my keyboard velocity response is not too great, I still hope flattening the loudness will help.
Especially since without chromatic sampling, any outliers affects 3 keys :/
Being used to play on a out of tune upright, I didn't notice much tuning issues but that might still be an interesting experiment to compare if this library can be made to sound better after some virtual tuning, though that would require chromatic sampling again :/

hi ,i just registered to post some thing here!first of all thank u for your incredible piano samples i love it so much!

ok.i think that the option "ampeg_release" should not be same for all notes...
specially differences between D#6 and F#6 should not be that much(suddenly goes from 1 to 5)
so i decided to change it a bit...
B5-C6-C#6 ampeg_release=1.25 (C6 samples)
D6-D#6-E6 ampeg_release=1.5 (D#6 samples)
F6-F#6-G ampeg_release=2 (F#6 samples)
G#6-A6-A#6 ampeg_release=3 (A6 samples)

after this notes ,making ampeg_release higher does not affect much so i leave them with ampeg_release=5
the same about notes before these notes ( leave them with ampeg_release=1)

also i notices that the sample A7 sounds weird.specially at high velocities i hear a noise
so i decided to use F#7 samples and use pitch

Post

i thing all samples must be normalized ...i explained why

all midi players control the volume of each note depending on the velocity of that note ...
the sampled notes at low velocities has itself a low volume and will get lower by midi player
so it will be reall hard to hear the note with low velocities (some times u never hear them, because of other some other notes playing at high velocities )

i try to normlize all samples and i'll put them here :P
also i think a "32khz 24 bit" wave file is better than "44.1khz 16bit"one
correct me if I'm wrong

There's a Maize Sampled VST vesrsion???

Clair De Lune makes me so happy :)

ok. here is the sf2 version of the SalamanderGrandPianoV3 with a bit changes

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bek3buio1pi0r ... o.sf2?dl=0

u need atleast 2Gb of ram to be able to use it. (1.2Gb file size-needs 830 Mb while loading)
i prefer u to get VirtualMIDISynth by Coolsoft team to use this soundfont, i uploaded sf2 version because most of the programs doesnt support sfz files

samples are 24bit and with 32khz sample rate, all samples are normalized
50% reverb - 25% chorus
and also ive done ampeg_release which i explained before
pedal samples are removed (i dont want hear pedal noise for each note that is played!)

best wishes
kazem

try sf2 version see if it works..most programs support sf2

Thanks for the sf2 version! The Salamander is a lovely piano.
If you will forgive the self-promotion you can get the Kontakt version here if you swing that way.

thank u so much :hyper: ... but im confused ! which VST do u prefer?

Post

Given a choice I'll tend to use Kontakt. I've messed with it enough to be comfortable tweaking things or even ripping out the guts and putting them in a new shell if the old one won't do what I want.
I appreciate SF2 and SFZ instruments, but I often can't get what I want out of them.
