This is my vote:

5pts - Tyder - For being a tight sound.

4pts - something moist and plucked - Sounds even nicer, when lowering env1 release.

3pts - Rock Organ - realistic.

2pts - Drumloop - I read about this on the SQ8L site, great to that this is also working with Tyrell.

1pts - Digital Scream - Cool Efx.

My votes are based on what I feel I would use most myself, so:

1. Nerve Runners (5 pts)
2. Pad 7th Wave (4 pts)
3. Tyder (3 pts)
4. Syncopated (2 pts)
5. Give Your Head a Wobble (1 pt)

A special mention to Digital Scream. Unuseable for me, but highly entertaining sound design.

Cheers,
Matt

5) 1 point = Tyder

good luck to everyone,

and thanks for this great contest :hail:
sound is vibration, vibration is life

My 2 cents:

1. Echoes in the Dark
2. Pendula +
3. Phase Diverge
4. Digital Scream
5. Wet Blanket

This was one of the hardest ones to vote for! What a variety!

Notes:

1. I'm not sure I understand why the tally must be displayed as it comes in. Wouldn't it make more sense to reveal the results at the end of the voting period and avoid any influence it might have on the voting?

2. I still find it odd that the criteria for voting is so personal. But hey, it does yield amazing variety!

3. Urs: IMHO you've created the next Synth1 :D This little gem sounds great and offers remarkable flexibility for its "simple" design. Wow! :tu:

I assume you meant "Wet Beaver" since "Wet Blanket" doesn't exist. :) Let me know if you meant another patch.

It's not a matter of must, I just do it because it's a lot easier to keep track of the patch votes as they come in. I also find it interesting seeing the tallies over time. Since the votes are public posts to this forum anyone could count them up themselves to see who's winning.

Or are you concerned that people see the leaders and think they have to vote for them too?

OK, taken my time over this. I'm afraid my penchant for pads is showing itself here....but it seems I'm not the only one!!

5 points - Pad - 7th Wave (+ external delay / reverb = spine tingle)
4 points - Echoes in the Dark (great movement)
3 Points - Nerve Runners (ditto)
2 Points - Pendula+ (ditto again)
1 Point - FX Binar Man (fun, fun, fun!)

Wish I could add another point for drumloop - very cool, but I would never use it!

I have to say, I am slightly embarassed about the lower quality of my entries compared to this lot...but its nice to be rubbing shoulders with such talent!

I think there may be a niggle that those patch authors who are in contention - ie with patches near the top of the leader board - might hang back and vote late and vote strategically.

The only way to absolutely fix that would be secret voting.

Personally I'd prefer to trust that people will simply vote for the patches they like. Maybe, now and again someone has that strategic mindset, but, oh well, life's too short.

Besides, I think watching the tally change over time is somewhat interesting.

Post

If I think I'm in with a shout of winning I try to vote early on, just to avoid any suspicion of tactical shenanigans (and I always vote for the patches I like anyway).

Doesn't look like that will be necessary this time...

I was thinking the same thing. But even though I'm new here, my feeling is this is probably a real honest group.

IMHO, one advantage to being a later voter is that it's prompted me to listen more to some patches I might have more easily dismissed earlier. I've had about 20 "why didn't I think of that" moments!

Early voters probably have an advantage to being completely objective, and later voters have the advantage of more time, which I suspect balances out. In any case, it's been tons of fun. :D

I agree. :)

I suppose there is the other argument, like bmrzycki says, that people are somehow influenced to vote for the patches that have more points - either out of subconscious group think, or just because being near the top makes people pay more attention to those patches.

Anyway, the cure (secret voting) is worse than the disease, IMO.

LOL! Of course... Now I'm wondering how interesting the sound of a wet blanket must be.

That's possible but I'm sure the group as a whole is on the good side of honest; however influence can be subtle thing. Even without taking any manipulative intent into account, it could still have an unconscious biasing effect on anyone's decisions.

Personally, I try to stay away from the thread while I audition. I listen to the whole lot and eliminate the ones that don't turn me on over a few days, then order the top that remain.

Definitely not sounding as interesting as a wet beaver.

4 Points - Nerve Runners

3 Points - FX Binar Man

1 Point - Echoes in the Dark

Nice stuff, I wish I'd had more time to play with Tyrell (and figure out that panning thingie...)

Oh well, at least there's some great patches out there now 8)

Oh boy! This was a hard decision! But finally:

1st: Pad - 7th wave (has a bit of Wavestation in it)
2nd: bleach caustics (simple & dirty, highly useful for me)
3rd: Tyrellean Traverse (reminds me of an old Kraftwerk song)
4th: Digital Scream (this is scary! :scared: )
5th: FX Binar Man (nice Robotalk)

Btw, really had to laugh when I played bikersgroal. Had something similar on my old Poly800 and even used this sound in a song, hehe.

A lot of great sounds in this contest!

Here's my votes but it wasn't easy to cast them.
There are patches that have a very cool tone but are too simple or static or badly tweaked.

1. Nerve Runners (5p)

2. something moist and plucked (4p)

3. Pendula+ (3p)

4. Wet Beaver (2p)

5. YardCore (1p)

======================================

1. This one is getting on my nerves :hihi:
2. Really like this one but IMO it badly needs couple of more tweaks. for exemple the filter keyfollow, env1 keytrack for keyboard balance and env2 velocity for a bit more expressievness.
3. Like the tone, feel and the random expressiveness.
4. Now this is what Tyrell should sound like! ;) :D
5. Ahaaa!... so this is how they are made: ring mod! Like the fact that's tight and it's got me thinking of Arp2600 spring reverb a bit.

Shoutouts in no particular order:

-SYN End of the World
-Echoes in the Dark
-Pad 7th Wave
-machine startup
-Asian Flavor
and more...

Cheers and good luck! :)
