Hey Garth, where's 6.1, that was mentioned it'd be released soon in July 2013?

True, but it says "Copyright © 2006-2013 Wlodzimierz Grabowski" on the page. So at least the page has apparently not been left alone for years.bmanic wrote:Well do we even know for a fact that he is alive and well?
A ghost page can survive surprisingly long on it's own even if the owner is not any more capable of sustaining it.

Sadly, that could very easily be programmed to pick up the "current year", as opposed to being hardcoded. I hope you are right though, ExSC is still the best converter imho but I'd love an update with the mapper.streifentier wrote:True, but it says "Copyright © 2006-2013 Wlodzimierz Grabowski" on the page. The mind boggles.

Much of it is in builds still labelled as Translator 6.0 (autosampling and some new formats), the rest is coded but just disabled, we just haven't flipped the minor version yet.trusampler wrote:where's [Translator] 6.1, that was mentioned it'd be released soon in July 2013?

Yes - I also noted that the year is current - but I agree - it means very little. I think we safely can count Wlod out for the time being. I was really looking forward to to v4. Especially since Redmatica got sucked into Apple. THAT was an incredible piece of software. Chicken Translator is something I avoid and only use when absolutely necessary.Juanjo wrote:Sadly, that could very easily be programmed to pick up the "current year", as opposed to being hardcoded. There are a few quite nice options for OSX - but I would be happy if Wlod came back with a v4. And with Samplelord as well.

Must confess, I'm a customer. Communication before and after the sale is what closed me on it. I had contacted you and ESC at the same time and you were just getting close to release a new update and very conscientous in answering every question. ESC never replied (As others have mentioned).chickeneps wrote:We're (I work for Chicken) always here when others come and go. First year doing sampler stuff: 1988. First year with a software program: 1996.
Translator has autosampling in it now (which is one of the things people liked about ESC) and supports many more formats than ESC ever did. It's also easier to use IMHO - others have disagree, but hey, it's my opinion.
Look, I'm sure this thread won't be any different than others on KVR - "buggy, guys a jerk, etc.". I don't agree, never have. You can always call us up and actually talk to us, 320-235-9798, we are happy to listen and banter, and do whatever you say (within reason!).
If there's anything you liked in ESC that you want to see in a updated program that works on Windows And Mac - that you can get today, just contact us, and we'll do it immediately if it's not already in Translator. And it'll work perfectly to your satisfaction. And maybe we'll cut you a deal on the price.
(Note: I don't mean to hijack a thread, just responding to BBFG.)
I made my comment 'questioningly' for two reasons
The first being you just never know if it is going to start debates (And I'm just not up for it ATM). Plus, and this is part of the reason for avoiding any quid pro quo, I haven't really got to sit down with it and get acclimated with all my 'theoretical' desires for it. (Things just got too chaotic with our fires and remodels and it sits on my desktop, patiently awaiting its turn.)

It was suggested by another KVR member that I post this here:
I've been exchanging emails with Wlodzimierz Grabowski and I offered to relay the info to KVR, since people were wondering, and he said, "Ok."
He assures me he is neither dead nor ill but has had to switch gears vocationally for an indeterminate amount of time with the hope of coming back and financing continued development of ESC in the future. Until then the software is still available for sale on his site at a reduced price. He said the upgrades would probably not be free, "Perhaps a small fee of amount will be required to get the new version. This way allow me to keep the business and feel stable." It appears his old business model was unsustainable. He also expressed what seemed to me genuine regret at his inability to honor his offer of the free upgrade to the next version.
This is all new to me, I was/am a potential customer that recently heard good things about the program, hoped it was still relevant and viable, and decided to send an email asking if he was out of business. His software seems/seemed to be highly regarded here and elsewhere and some folks here expressed concerns.
As for my concerns, I guess this is s good enough place to ask if ESC is still worth getting in spite of it's age and current developmental disposition.

Personally, I would not mind paying for any updates - I really hope he updates it.

Awesome. I'm glad Wlod is okay.
And here's to an update at some point. Even a paid one.
