I'm not too bothered about the lack of synths as I'm happy with the sampled instruments, but the lack of a way to import your own instruments is something that needs addressing immediately in my opinion.

Whilst I would agree that a synth would be very nice (Sytrus-mini) and user-samples are a necessity, I really like this.
I already own Xewton Music Studio, and FL Studio Mobile is leaps and bounds better so far as usability and workflow are concerned, and that's vital for such a small (ipad) touch interface.
Add in the compatibility project-wise with FL Studio desktop, and the no-doubt great support that Imageline tend to provide, I mostly just wish this had come out before I bought Music Studio (or any of the earlier sequencers).
Very happy with my purchase, and looking forward to see what's in the next update

While I would agree with koalaboy that FL Mobile is better than Music Studio, that is about the best that can be said. FL Mobile is very limited compared to Beatmaker 2 or Nanostudio. I have now spent some time with it, and can't get away from the fact that it feels like a prettier Music Studio with better samples.
I will keep it installed and see how it developes. I do not think it is worth the money paid, $20 US is really absurd for it. But I do not feel cheated since I bought FL for PC at version 3, and have enjoyed free updates ever since. So I really don't mind throwing a bit more money at the fine folks at IL.
For now, IMHO BM2 and NS are still THE only real choices on iOS. With Zenon coming in right behind them.

I agree.. owning both BM2 and Nanostudio I will not be purchasing this until it matures considerably.
Nanostudio is just lightyears ahead of any competition in my opinion. Once he gets beat chopping and stereo sample support added it will be untouchable.. oh and an iPad version for those lucky enough to own one.
Cheers!

May be there are better ones, but the biggest point is compatibility with FL Studio
And you can trust Image Line : it will improve too.
They made big steps with FL Studio and plugins, fast.
It is cool to sketchpad on iPad, but when the export to your desktop/laptop DAW is coming...it is less fun.
What are the export functions on other solutions ?
Can you export in one click all MIDIs (notes AND automations) and audios files with their respective pan/volume automations in MIDI format ?
I don't think so
Integration is the word.
May be it will sound limited to other ppl, but for me, it is the most important factor.
What is the point of gaining time composing everywhere when you loose the time you gained exporting/importing back to your full usual DAW ?
Of course, ppl making full songs on iPad don't care about that
But i will never do a full project on iPad, especially when i listen to ACE, DCAM Synth Squad, Massive...

midi and wav can be exported, of course...however, if you were really only using it as a sketchpad why would you bother doing fiddly automation on an ipad/ipod ??...i would have thought that the reason to then import into a full daw would be for exactly that - automation, and mixingmegadeth wrote: Can you export in one click all MIDIs (notes AND automations) and audios files with their respective pan/volume automations in MIDI format ?
i have a feeling that imageline have no intention of limiting themselves to owners of fl studio, so it would make sense to make a better spec'd product, that's better priced and doesn't rip people off expecting a premium for ipad purchasing and a double app purchase in some cases

FL mobile is so a 2009 apps compared to BM2 or nanostudio (best music app at the moment IMO),
the one and only FX bus is ridiculous for a 2011 apps and make it unusable to create something that is more complex than just put an idea on screen
no audio copy pasteboard too it seems so you can't share what you do on FL mobile with other apps => useless for me (even if the sound bank inside could be interesting i can't share them with other apps).
about the synthesis part, it's just too limited too(attack, release, pan and volume, no more... no LFO, filter, ADSR, ect ect ect...)
and why the need to differenciate iphone and ipad apps ? money obviously,
seriously imageline just sell us a branding name with this FL mobile v1.0,
it's sad because it could be huge but finally this v1 just look overlimited.

Knew it had no copy and paste, limited fx routing (not even sends), samples but no synths, limited edit functions, no import of samples, no audio rec etc., but bought it for my iPad anyway (at a steep price). Nonetheless I found the collection of synths and drums sounds inspiring enough to make some fast beats. The samples are in Image Line spirit and very well chosen for electronic music IMO. I like FL Mobile for what it is (but not it's price considering what it is) and I hope to see some heavy and hopefully free upgrades coming in a near future.
I agree that iTunes transfer sucks and so does wi-fi transfer. Leaving out copy and paste is a bad priority. If I absolutely have to use a PC for transfer I prefer iPhone explorer

This way you can enter your directories on an iDevice with no need of iTunes nor Wi-fi. And it is legal; you do not need to jailbreak your device.
Recommended as the next best solution to copy and paste transfer.
(Seems a little buggy still, though, occasionally I have to restart it to make it find the directories)
To Image Line, I will say: Lovely idea!
A good start, but you have a whole lot of catching up to do.

Nanostudio won't be a contender for me until they release a native iPad version.
Beatmaker 2 won't be for a while because I spent £12 on Beatmaker 1, and don't appreciate being shafted with a new 'version', rather than an update (and yes, I know it's the new Apple way, but I don't have to buy into it).
Having spent almost as much on iPad music apps as I have on just one PC DAW, I'm enjoying the possibilities. Once the Alesis dock (if ever) arrives, the iPad will have a permanent home in the studio
