Hey folks, i was kidding about the ban! :-o

You all can make a Christmas based track, title or pic, but i won't tolerate the typical Jingle Bells (or Synthy Bells in this case) or Night of Peace/Love, or whatever is called in english.
It won't be original, that's the thing :hihi:

Of course you can make a track based on your feelings about a X Christmas night you passed someday in the past with someone special or things like that.

Sumarizing: Be original and don't make a Christmas carol (i think is called thus) please, or you won't get points from me.

And not very important, but i wanted to let you know that i will go to Germany to live in a couple of months. Surely to Nürnberg.
To have a nice job, to work, and to survive.
Spain is getting worse and worse. No life here after all...

Have a good day, mates :)

Well, having just started to mess around with Diva today I can already give you an answer to that question - probably all of them! :o

OMG, my PC now really looks its age, most patches I can't play more than 3 or 4 notes without my system grinding to a halt

Jon
me too, I have to limit polyphony to 3 or 4 or it gets real nasty real quick!

You right, crazy little, dirty, cpu-hungry beast!

I hope to make a song with fruity: no bouncing/freeze function :o
Would to see how i can make bouncing with fruity basic functions ....

Moving to a country where you don't speak the language just to get by is heavy shit Irion, but that's the sorry state of Europe at the moment unfortunately.. :|

But I think even the Bavarians have stopped pretending they don't speak English now so you should be OK anyway, isn't that right Bjulin.. ;)

V'ger wrote:But I think even the Bavarians ...
Yeah, and learn right from the beginning: Nürnberg is NOT Bavaria! Technically it is but they call their area Frankonia. They think the difference is very important. I learned that the hard way back then... :-o 8)

Post

I do not think this "technically qualifies" yet because the rules explicitly sate:
Submissions uploaded to SoundCloud only and must be downloadable
Which the track should not yet be downloadable. However, I would like to just share the track because I do not care if I win or lose this. So, I guess this is a bit like an "unofficial" submission :hihi: The synth is a lot of fun to work with. Credit to U-He for this synth. A fantastic soudning synth.

Anyway teh track: http://soundcloud.com/apzx/galastra-apzx

Currently the FX breakdown goes something like this;

14x Instances of Diva and counting . . .

2x VoS EpicVerb
7x VoS BootEQ mkII
1x VoS NastyVCS
2x VoS BaxterEQ
1x VoS Density mkII
4x Cockos ReaEQ
2x Kjaerhus Classic Delay
1x TLs Pocket Limiter (just using it on the Master Out currently to stop any peaks from crossing over 0dB, will be removed before the end)

Edit - I'll be updating the track in the link daily until I feel it is finished and then I'll make it downloadable in gorgeous HQ 16-bit WAV.

Nice stuff, but you can upload to any format you like, even 24bit 48khz wav if that's what you want. Of course SoundCloud will transcode everything to 128kbs 44khz mp3 for the player, but the download file will stay as you uploaded it.

Post

V'ger,
I know I can upload it just about any format I want. My thing is I don't want to spend the time to upload a 24-bit WAV :hihi: they're not exactly "small".

I just want to point out something regarding my thought process toward the track. Since the challenge is called "One Synth Challenge" I think on a philosophical level the competition would be better served by trying to show what the synth actually sounds like in its most raw form. So, I'm only using EQs currently for HPF and LPF (BaxterEQ for that). It just makes more sense to me if done that way.

And to Mr. Heckmann wherever he be, Diva is seriously an awesome sounding synth.

Anybody out there, who's got a nice kickpatch for diva?
Trying to get a nice kickdrum out of it, I wasted about an hour now...
any suggestions?

Bjulin,
I managed to get an okay kick out of it. You can take a listen to my WIP for the OSC.

How I did is a bit like this:
Dual VCO, Feedback, OTA SVF, ADSR Analog

Used only the Sine wave from the Dual VCO and then used ENV 2 to modulate the pitch. A little bit of feedback to give the kick a tidbit more harmonic content. The filter opens all the way up with a little resonance from ENV 1. Only thing used on the EGs was Decay.

Makes a pretty nice kick IMO.

I more or less did the same thing, kicks for me are always enveloped sine waves. I had to pump the levels up a lot with a compressor though, once it was enveloped it was like 40% of the volume I had expected.

I can't for the life of me get a solid hat or snare yet. I might not get this one done.

Post

alphuris,
I couldn't really get a solid hat or snare either. So, I ended up doing the hats a bit like the Korg Minipops or whatnot. In that they are kinda hats, but not particularly great ones. The snare I traded out instead for a synthetic perc sound. Personally I like it better.

I am trying Nord sound. Diva is nearly Nord.
But, I don't know yet about how much Diva can do Nord

I am not enough for synth. so, I expect more good sound then me.
I feel such as painting with big and thick brush.
some hard to sharp sound. but fun too.
I like music
