Thank you for that review!!!
Im looking for something couchable, ie something i can sit on the couch and play around with instead of in front of the computer. I already have maschine to start out with so i get sequencer with that.
Microkey.. how is the mod/pitch control do you think?

edit: nvm, i looked at the microkey25 :)

unfortunately they don't have rotary endless knobs(which imo are essential)
that's why i didn't pick one...pity, cos they do look amazing.

the microkey37 is fantastic(very quiet soft key action!) pitchwheel and modulation wheel are more than decent despite the smaller size.
i was actually planning on attaching the 2 nocturns to the microkey with some cardboard and a little DIY(the result would have been decent looking and very light and portable)...but the plan got kinda ruined by the fact the 2 usb ports on the microkey do not provide enough power for the nocturns .

Re simple and compact keyboards: I'm a big fan of the waterfall keyboard on my Twinthesizers (Microkorg XL) - so I'd get me a microkey 37. Missing aftertouch, though...

I have bought the Remote sl 61/Impulse 49/microkorg/Nocturn/ and UltaNova. I settled on the Ultranova and Nocturn. The Ultranova has great keyboard action, a very good synth, automap and its a usb sound interface. Still use the Nocturn with my Kx8 also...

Urs, will the Faderfox controler for ACE still considered for release ?
And, most importantly (to me at least), will it work with Diva ? Looks damn promising anyway, exactly what I'd need for Diva.

Post

the LD2 from FaderFox looks like it packs a lot in a little package. 16 endless rotary enconders.

i wish it was laid horizontally rather than vertically..although if money is no object you could layer 3 or 4 of them and have literally every control on view.
but it's rather expensive

Mathias needs me to improve some things before he continues, but alas, I hardly get to develop anything these days.

It'll supposedly work with anything. We did however add alot of functionality with the UH-3 in mind, hence it should work great with Diva too.

Anyone mention QuNeo frrom Keith Mcmillen instruments?

i just read there's the new Code v.2 by Livid coming out soon and judging by the updated feature list and new redesign it might be worth the high price now.
http://lividinstruments.com/hardware_code.php

anyway i'm personally done in my search as i'm happy with my 2nocturns+microkey combo (at least till the bazille/berlin modular comes out):
16 endless rotaries and 16 buttons if organized well in a couple of pages are just about enough to cover all the synth controls without getting messy(minus the the fx, trimmers, etc) .
32 would be ideal i believe.
having said that for sure i ain't adding a 3rd nocturn (although they are cheap as chips used) cos i fear juggling setups through 3 devices would become an unnecessary headache. 2 is enough tribulation.
anyways although i've made most of the sounds i need with just a mouse for months..... really it's so much more enjoyable with knobs ahhhhh !!night an day!! i've got knobs, i've got wood(essential!) and i've got the best synth money can buy!

Just a quick note, I asked Mathias about the UH3 and he says it's cancelled (quoting lack of support from u-he). Not sure what happened here, but the arrow interface was genius!

iCON QCon: good DAW controller, but as a Mackie Control emulator not suited for softsynths

BCR: still one of the best because of parameter feedback

others: I haven't tried them all of course, but personally I don't consider controllers very usable if they have no parameter feedback. If there are only a few parameters, uni-directional control may work fine, but for more parameters I think it's not very useful. Still better than a mouse, but you have to live with parameter jumps.

For softsynths my preferred controller is an iPad with Lemur and a custom interface (template). There are restrictions. You have to pick the right parameter on the rather small screen. Your DAW has to be able to send parameter feedback. You have to have a stable wifi connection. And in the case of Diva, you have to use the 32-bit VST 2 version (that may change in the future, but for now it is like that). But the advantages are unique. Instant feedback after preset change, exact replication of the GUI including module change, and new features can quite easily be included with the Lemur editor.
