Ipad useless for keyboard player ... too much latency its awful.

Just made a few test as I find the korg synth a bit slow at responding too.
Just sending single notes every bar to my dock using the usb midi connection, recording back into the daw with a motu 828, no midi or audio compensation in the daw (live 8.4).
Audio input latency is about 4msec (given by the card but probably more).

Hardware
Korg Radias 13 msec (cable midi thru a usb motu interface)
Virus TI2 17 msec (same config)

iPad 3
Sunriser @ 128 samples 21 msec
Animooog 23 msec
Korg iMs20 and polysix @ low latency 63 msec
Korg iMs20 and polysix @ normal latency 117 msec

Obviously the iKorgs are using a pretty large buffer even at low latency setting.

go into airplane mode. Also check that you don't have icloud syncing anything if you are on wifi.

There's got to be something wrong with your hardware. I've got an iPad 3 sitting here right now with Polysix, and there's no way in hell it's 117ms on normal. There's no perceivable latency at all. What are you using to measure latency?

So my hardware is wrong with korgs apps but not with sunriser ? Using exactly the same hardware for both. The latency includes sending the midi and recording the audio back to the daw so the 117 msec have to be compared to the time got by sunriser or animoog, that's still about 40 msec more in low latency mode. also the values are constant so it's not due to midi jitter.

Try for yourself, it's easy to test either with an external daw or using audiobus with any app that can send midi and record audio (cubasis, meteor,..) and check against another iSynth.

Tried with audiobus on an ipad2 in cubasis , buffer set at 512 samples(12 msec), midi sent from a single track to all ports.
Sunrizer shows indeed a 512 buffer, ims20 was set to low latency.

A bit strange as sunrizer starts at least 5 msec too early, which probably means that cubasis is over compensating.
iMs20 is here 21 msec late, so there's about 30 msec difference between the 2 synth.

As I made my previous test with a 128 samples buffer we finally get these 40 msec difference again. (30 + 8 )
And when I set ims20 at normal latency the difference was over 60 msec, add the 512 buffer extra audio and midi latency and you get at least a 100 msec total latency in that situation. No problem to play pads but a bit tricky to play faster stuff.

Something weird going on here. I have an iPad 2 with an IK iRig MIDI interface. No noticeable latency here at all.

Maybe you have an android tablet? Sorry, couldn't resist... :D

No noticeable latency is something very subjective, depending on what and how you play, sound type ..., in some situations even 200 msec is ok, but when I play my midi guitar strumming real fast with complex rhythms I need to set the soundcard under 8 msec, best is around 3 msec.

Good synth to test is sunrizer as you can set the buffer from 128 to 2048 (2.9 - 46.4 msec)

Anyway, one thing I'm sure is that the audio buffer used in the ikorg apps is at least 1024 samples(23.2 msec @ 44.1 khz), and when playing live (or sending midi from another app) will double the latency, you have at least 46.4 msec ( on low setting ).

You'll easily feel anything above 50ms of latency, and I just don't feel it in any app. I don't have Sunrizer, so I can't test it, but I think there's something else at play here.

Then again, I don't send MIDI from other apps to synths and then back again either.

AudioBus fixed the crappy latency with WaveMapper.
When not using AudioBus the latency is not so great otherwise its perfectly fine if i am using AudioBus.

Ms20 is better but still far worse than WaveMapper. Anyway i wont buy an other apps from Korg that's it.

It is now playable though i need an other app to make it work fine, weird.

edit: Every others apps i bought are fine , no problem with latency at all.
I guess every apps has different buffer setting

Post

I noticed that the iMS20 latency is _variable_.
Sometimes it's getting noticeable slow on my iPad 3, when i close all other running apps, it's fast again, no restart needed.
