If you wanna use a midi keyboard with the Ipad using the camera connection kit and a midi interface , well forget it . The latency for every single apps i have on my ipad feels like 40-50 ms so its a no go.
I've tried Animoog , Ppg wave Generator , and ims20.
Too bad .

?????
so, you tested one set up and now know it all?
connection my Kawai MP 10 to the iPad (USB via cam connection kit or Midi via yamaha iPad midi io) I can play quite some instruments (garageband, one of the organ apps, that electric piano app .... did not try wave generator, animoog or korg ....
but i cannot follow your statement in general and in the broad sense that it expresses.

I probably wouldn't use it for any complicated or fast rhythmic parts.. But for more background elements i use a similar setup into my looper (mainly a guitarist) and it's fine for me.. For an expert keyboard player, well maybe not, but i expect most would have a decent performance keyboard anyhow? And if using an ipad just use it to augment their setup or make hands on fx sounds etc on the touch screen a'la moog app etc..

Basically that is what I use it for..more effects and such.

Well, i have tested 2 different midi interfaces with different apps.
Garage Band is the only app with acceptable latency for me.
Sure I have not tested every single midi interface and every apps.
Sure it is fine for background noise and pad but for fast playing there is very noticeable latency (for me anyway)
I thought apps where using core audio with around 5-10 ms latency overall.

---I'm not sure of course for anyone but me but I was playing the organ solo from Roundabout by Yes using my M-Audio keyboard via the Griffin interface and using the Sample Tank app. Rick Wakeman eat your heart out! LOL
I have the PPG but haven't tried it out yet via midi, I use four regular synth keyboards and mostly use the iPad for its great saxes and special efx, latency has nto been a probelm for me in any context.

Using an Akai MPC Mini or my Yamaha PSR S910 and a Presonus Audiobox, I can play all my iPad instruments and I do not detect any latency problems. I press a key they make a noise. I have the iPad2, by the way. I have almost all the quality DAWs, synths and instruments you can buy for the iPad and I do not see the latency you are reporting.

Hi,
Same here. All works fine.
Soviet pop, are you sure to have all apps closed? And open only you use in the moment?
Have you a jailbreacked unit?
Pressing twice the bottom switch how many apps you may count?

Wow, I'm not seeing anywhere close to that. You better check your system and find the issue. It's definitely not the concept of an iPad and midi protocols. Lol. I'm using an Alesis io dock, iconnectmidi, and an S-load of controllers, with much success.

I run my MPK61 into my computer via USB, then MIDI-Ox hack that back through it's own DIN Ports, into a cheap M-Audio USB-MIDI adapter, and finally into the Camera Connection Kit.
I experience no perceptible latency. Ever.

Hi,
Thanks for the info everyone.
I have a non jail broken iPad 3 and I use the Elektron midi adapter with a nord modular g2 as the midi controller .
Every apps have a huge amount of latency except Garage Band.
I have no apps open in background .
I use the latest version of IOS .
Ms20 and ppg wave are the worst with around 50-100 ms latency.
Maybe there is something wrong with my device.
I will try to reset my iPad .
Btw Ppg WaveGenerator is absolutely mind blowing !!!!

I have an ipad2 with a presonus audio box USB hooked up to a powered hub. I use my Akai Mpc mini keyboard. My latency is near zero.
