Shangsean wrote:I liked this one overall. I preferred the first half to the second as it had a great atmosphere and nice variations. The second half was still good, but I would have liked to have heard some more variation here. I also feel like the choir/organ sound sort of sits on top of everything else and could maybe drop a few a couple of db to sit better with the rest or maybe it's more the fast attack OR maybe it's just me.:) I think the rest of the mix is very good though. As I said, overall I like it.
Thanks very much for listening and commenting, Shangsean. Glad you liked it :)

That RedTron patch is not very subtle in comparison with many modern instruments. I think the fast attack is probably a major contributor to that feeling. One of the bands I played in (a long time ago) used a Mellotron, and that characteristic attack featured prominently on the surviving recordings. Hopefully, I shall be able to obtain permission to put a couple of these tracks up on SoundCloud in the future. The recordings (and at least one of the performances) aren't great, but they are passably entertaining.

To summarise, this track has historical and sentimental value for me, and maybe a few "rough edges" as attendant baggage :)

Yes, I had trouble connecting the dots on these. :dog:

"Concert Rust" = "Reconstruct" ?

On the other hand, "Concert Rust" and "Tom Re-Armed" are somewhat clunky anagrams. You could have called the track "North Mesa Veiled" which conjures up a mountain covered in snow. Unscrambled it is "The Dream Lives On."

You saw the real deal live. I was late to the TD party, getting into them in the 90s. I had tickets for their first US show in ages in Sept 2001. Then September 11th happened and the tour was canceled. Finally saw them this year. They could be called Edgar and The Kids now. It's not the same.

Oldfield was a master of pacing on "Ommadawn". Not so much on his follow up "Incantations" which seems to last 19 hours.

He was a high class prostitute?! :o :hihi:

Give that man a cigar (maybe not a good idea after all that boozing with Dr. Wu)

Maybe clunky, but in my case, Concert Rust has a certain resonance and truth :(

Even in '85, I felt that they had lost a lot of their earlier magic. A lot of people won't agree.

He toured in '79. The live version of Incantations was somewhat abbreviated.

Figuratively speaking :hihi:

Incidentally, I have made some mods to the hat samples - 2dB cut all the way through and a subtle bitcrusher/phaser - just the way you like 'em

Now that's what I call service! I just checked it out at high volume. The bitcrusher/phaser trick worked like a charm. The effect is very subtle but it no longer sounds like the same samples being repeated. :tu:

I agree. Most of the magic happened with the two classic lineups: Froese/Franke/Baumann and Froese/Franke/Schmoelling. The rest has been very hit or miss.
