Can the melody of my music already exist before i created it?

How could I know all of the billions of songs in the world to make sure that I don't use an already used melody?

Go for melodies that speak to you. I've ripped off progressions from tracks I like, been inspired by melodies, but if there's one thing I can say it's that people recognize my melodies as mine, even if they might sound like something else occasionally (with or without my knowledge).Tricky-Loops wrote:How could I know all of the billions of songs in the world to make sure that I don't use an already used melody?
It's about finding your voice - there are still unique expressions in electronic music, and you don't need to reinvent the wheel or create a new genre for that.
Remember you're allowed everything up to "very similar" - it's only directly ripping stuff off which is bad (legally and creatively). If you combine (or are inspired by) several different sources and combine them together in a unique way, the chances of it being already done are very slim.

You can tune down or up every note of your sequence a few cents or even semitones. Don't care if it sounds a bit strange now. Unique-ness is the most important thing. If people are saying "This sounds SO wrong!", just reply "It's not wrong! It's unique!"Jedinhopy wrote:All people want perfect notes in their songs.

I can share my music if someone says which song i have recreated since the names of my songs are bad.
I compose for nothing except for my listening pleasure.

Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
And eyes and ears and a mouth and a nose
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
(a little bit faster)
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
And eyes and ears and a mouth and a nose
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
(a little bit higher)
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
And eyes and ears and a mouth and a nose
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
(ok, this time really fast and really high!)
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
And eyes and ears and a mouth and a nose
Heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
Eyes and ears and a mouth and a nose
