Well, I think I would trade my internet speed for a house in nature, that's for sureMivo wrote:I know it sounded like I'm somewhere in a jungle, but I'm actually in Germany. In spite of the country being technologically advanced, there are some areas that have very poor internet coverage. 10-20 miles in any direction and I'd have lightning fast net, but not in my current location. They offer LTS as a "solution" in for areas, but it's pretty much just a cover up because the caps are at 2-3 GB and then the speed is throttled to the above mentioned numbers. At least it's idyllic here!
What is the exact time of Bitwig Studio launch?

It's very beautiful, a tiny little village surrounded by hills, grapes, and lots of green. My cats love it here.lesha wrote:Well, I think I would trade my internet speed for a house in nature, that's for sure

It must be a great place for making musicMivo wrote:It's very beautiful, a tiny little village surrounded by hills, grapes, and lots of green. My cats love it here. The slow internet isn't as bad as it sounds. You just get in the habit of downloading bigger stuff over night or having to wait a few hours. If nothing else, it teaches patience. It's better than the dial-up I had in the 80s and 90s, too!
Regarding the internet speed, anything is better than dialup
I remember blocking my phone line for hours and my parents complaining about it...

So, it's basically a online installer?kennyda wrote:You download a small app, takes about 3 minutes, and then when it's installed it downloads all the packages...
Please tell me that they have a offline installer, at least for the program... if no, that's really bad...

Can you install it on a machine that is not connected to the internet?Regnas wrote:So, it's basically a online installer?kennyda wrote:You download a small app, takes about 3 minutes, and then when it's installed it downloads all the packages...

By the way, according to this review, the installer is 300MB.

So it seems like there's an offline installer...

I think you can relax - the bundled content IS on the DVDMivo wrote:Yeah, size matters, in this case.I'm currently in a severely internet-underdeveloped area, so the DSL they offer here is 384k, which translates to about 45k/s, some 162 MB per hour. It's not an issue as long as downloads can be resumed, but that is why I had hoped the bundled stuff (3 GB) for the full version would be on the boxed version's DVDs. Not a big deal in any event, and doesn't matter for the demo anyway.
For the download-demo, you can start with just the basic content which is rather small and can be downloaded in the background (presets for the factory devices and some other stuff to get you started).
Now let's hope the servers hold
Cheers,
Tom

It's an offline installer for the Programm and "online" on demand installing/deinstalling of the content in the background.Regnas wrote:So, it's basically a online installer?kennyda wrote:You download a small app, takes about 3 minutes, and then when it's installed it downloads all the packages...

If you have the boxed version - yes.pdxindy wrote:Can you install it on a machine that is not connected to the internet?Regnas wrote:So, it's basically a online installer?kennyda wrote:You download a small app, takes about 3 minutes, and then when it's installed it downloads all the packages...

And I guess you can copy the content from a machine that is connected to the web to the offline machine if you have the download version (although the box makes sense actually - cool package, printed manual, stickers, color-stickers for your controller, DVD with content).
And yes, there is offline activation.
Cheers,
Tom

@ThomasHelzle:
The program works without the content, or I need to download the content to start working with Bitwig?

Awesome, thanks! The product description for the boxed version (at Thomann) said, "inkl. 3 GB Content (Download)", which I had missed when pre-ordering, and only saw it later. Happy to hear that this isn't the case.ThomasHelzle wrote:I think you can relax - the bundled content IS on the DVD

The software works without the content, but then you have no presets etc.
But you can just download what you need with the content manager, each package is available separately.
This comes up on installation in a "Wizard", but you can always access it later on and get more (Either from the Menu File -> Package Manager or from the last Tab of the Browser (the Gear-Icon) where you also set your VST and Sound locations.
So I would recommend downloading at least the "Essentials Collection" which is about 75 MB and has all the presets for the factory devices, some drums for the DrumMachine and a nice Wurlitzer so you have something to play with
Oh and by the way: if you prefer to have the content on a separate Drive like me, be sure to select it in the Package Manager BEFORE you start downloading, otherwise you will have to move it around by hand later on...
Cheers,
Tomn

That Thomann Entry is completely borked anyway - they list stuff that will only be available in Version 2...Mivo wrote:Awesome, thanks! Sounds nice and countryside-ish anyway! You can't have everything. Although when you finally get Bitwig Studio you'll be pretty close. Anyway, good things come to those who wait. Have a good Wiggy Wednesday!Mivo wrote:I know it sounded like I'm somewhere in a jungle, but I'm actually in Germany. In spite of the country being technologically advanced, there are some areas that have very poor internet coverage. 10-20 miles in any direction and I'd have lightning fast net, but not in my current location.
