Well? Falcon vs. Omnisphere 2

There are plenty of pre-sets in Falcon (guessing 3-400) more than I will probably ever use....but the Quality of the pre-sets is outstanding, each with there own little graphical representation and pre-assigned button/knob macros etc. Lovely job. I also agree that I find a lot of Omni2 stuff a little abstract, probably fine (even ideal) for film scoring, but for me, hard to slot in a musical context, clever, interesting etc, but not something I find myself noodling away with for hours (unlike some pre-sets on Falcon, Serum, Diva etc.)
This is of course all a matter of taste, and we are ludicrously spoilt however you look at it! Omni2 and Falcon are different, both great, I would pick Flacon if I could only have one.

I agree with the "hard to slot in a musical context" comments.I love Omnisphere but do find I have to pick my spots for alot of the sounds that end up being a kind of filler. That said, I'm spoiled by Omnisphere's massive (and free) preset list. 300 to 400 presets is nothing since I know on average, I never like more than a 1/3 to 1/2 of them. Even if I only like 1/3 of Omnisphere's factory sounds I still have thousands to choose from.
I think I'll pass. Falcon looks great for progammers but I have to churn out lots of music and rely more on presets to suit my workflow so I guess I'll pass.

No no, he *meant* literally. It's in the 'Organic/Biology/Integumentary Mayhem' bank in Omnisphere. They have the amped sound of hairs being split, I believe they include blonde, black, red, brown, afro, grey, bleached, burning, and pubic.zerocrossing wrote:I hate you and everyone who has literally used the term literally incorrectly for so long that it literally has no meaning.wagtunes wrote:In this case, Omni 2 vs Falcon, you're splitting hairs, literally.
None of those in Falcon. Comparison over. Omnisphere wins.

Aren't you guys both in your early 60's or something? I thought all ancient folk got along with one another. Why don't you both get on your Rascals, have a walking cane dule, then shake hands and reminisce about when you would walk 20 miles to and from school uphill in the snow back in the day.zerocrossing wrote:

Neh, we're old and cranky and like Archie Bunker don't get along with anybody.quantum7 wrote:Aren't you guys both in your early 60's or something? No, you're completely off base there. I hesitated on Omni 1 because we couldn't bring into it any of our own samples and so on. They took care of this limitation in version 2 as well as some other improvem, ents that really were impressive.Numanoid wrote:If you get distracted by any new instrument released, you weren't really intent on buying Omni2MarlaPodolski wrote:I used to be a critic of Omnisphere but all that changed with version 2. Now, I'm seriously impressed. I was just about set to buy it, then this happened.
And neither Falcon
Because there will always be a shiny new plug appearing
But having owned (and still greatly liking certain other top synths), I was finally considered going after what is perhaps the "synth of all synths". Then Falcon suddenly appeared. Now, it seems we have two in this category. Hence this thread. I'm not the slightest interested in shiny. You're thinking of perhaps crows or maybe your head?

Thanks again for all the insights. As I've been reading through the really well-organized Falcon manual I'm coming away just so impressed by all it can do. I do like making my own presets, but I enjoy buying great soundbanks every bit as much. I'm sure that given time there will be plenty more coming online for Falcon, and I'd also have to go hunting through all the other UVI-compatible banks. For now I find myself still leaning toward Omni 2, even though I was one of the bunch whho did sort of think of it as a rompler in its version 1.
I read in one of the other threads that someone thought Falcon's synthesis oscs sounded better that Omni's. Good oscs in any synth are important to me. What say you on this specific question - OSC quality?
