More than likely I'll upgrade if the demo runs smooth
But would I buy into Bitwig as a new user at the new price point of €379/$399 for 12 months of support/updates..I'd have my doubts

And its gone, guess someone informed the CTO of how insane that would belarsomat wrote: Nicholas Allen (CTO of Bitwig):Source: https://www.facebook.com/bitwig/videos/ ... 7449326140If an OS update breaks your build we will backport the fix and make it available or make a version that is usable on that OS available for you.
If they extend this policy to other critical bugs, I really don't see any problem here...

Wow. That's a bummer, indeed. Without that statement, even I can't justify the upgrade at this point...ezelkow1 wrote:And its gone, guess someone informed the CTO of how insane that would belarsomat wrote: Nicholas Allen (CTO of Bitwig):Source: https://www.facebook.com/bitwig/videos/ ... 7449326140If an OS update breaks your build we will backport the fix and make it available or make a version that is usable on that OS available for you.

On a tangent, I have no idea why people continue to update operating systems that are already working perfectly well for them. If you have a problem, then fine. But otherwise, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Unless your someone where your music pc is solely for music there are plenty of reasonsjonljacobi wrote:On a tangent, I have no idea why people continue to update operating systems that are already working perfectly well for them. lots and lots of security updates, not all of them are back ported
more efficient/updated kernel in linux/win/osx, things like better support for newer processors if you have a non-ancient machine
os specific features, i.e. some games need things that only run on win10, and alot of VR features only work correctly on win10
Just new and better features overall, things like better/more disk formats in linux and better supported audio backends. More integration with more things that you cant get on previous OSs like cortana integrated with android phones on win10
There are plenty of reasons

You will not get any significant updates in the 12 months. Let's be honest it's been 3 years on V1 and all we have is a badge in our accounts saying good on you for being a version 1 taker uper. They have been extremely slow in development with a lot of hype. Now they are grasping for finances anyway they can . It will backfire . They spent a ton of time on the W10 screen thing and forgot about everything . No major instruments or effects , no major improvements, no promised version 2 features. Version 1 license is now worthless . Well done bitwig . Early adopter gamble didn't pay off but thank god we still got ableton . It really is way way ahead.loungepanda wrote:Depends; I'm okay with it If it means they put out more updates and whatnot at a faster rate, but if not then 160€ is a bit over the top.

I'm not saying never update, I run Windows 10. But I sure as hell imaged my Windows 7 system before I upgraded in case I had to go back. I had to roll back several clients with older hardware that won't run under Windows 10.
Just don't update your OS for no particularly good reason and never do so automatically or on day one. And don't do it just for bells and whistles or trivial technology or technology you don't need.
Note that I'm not talking about browsers or anything related to the Internet, which is the main door from the outside world into your machine.

Not just for broken systems... I think, from this statement it's pretty evident why you have trouble understanding.whizzl wrote:I cannot understand why people think 159€ is a lot for this software. And please don't try to explain it to me.

And should the developer be forced to work for free when you decided to change your OS? Is there anything in the license agreement that promises the software you are buying will work on any future platforms?ezelkow1 wrote:Unless your someone where your music pc is solely for music there are plenty of reasonsjonljacobi wrote:On a tangent, I have no idea why people continue to update operating systems that are already working perfectly well for them. This is the type of self-entitlement thinking I don't understand. Is it their fault Apple keeps releasing OSs at the pace they do? All the things you mention are your problems and a consequence of your choices, not theirs.
I have no problem to pay for new functionality, and I include compatibility with new OSs in that category. Bug fixes, as when I am delivered a feature that doesn't work a advertised and then I am dependant on the support contract being valid to fix a bug that was introduced when I had a valid one, that does rub me the wrong way.

Im not quite sure where you got self entitlement from my post. I was solely responding to the question of 'why do people upgrade a non broken OS'
Never once did I say any developer should be forced to hand out free updates for an OS update

craigtumps wrote:Ive got the answer to all this.. Why not make Bitwig free but ad supported? Every other arranger track could be a banner ad. Also when you open a plugin you have to watch a 30 second advert before it pops up. Team up with Amazon and get Alexa built in too.
Why did no one think of this, its the obvious solution! Thank me later.
