I can relate to how Dan feels right now also at this moment in time. Roman Empire's advice earlier was pretty cool though so I'm going with that to start with. I do actually make a living with music so i'm hoping it passes real damn quick.
Good luck with it Dan!

why anyone would pay good money to chase a ball across an oversized lawn is beyond me.donkey tugger wrote:Actually I was thinking of taking up golf, but the clubs cost too much...
as far as the music issue goes.. ermm.. transfer all of your licenses to me.. move to france.. become a mime... or if that doesnt work out.. just take a break and do something else you enjoy.. there ARE other things out there that you've wanted or currently like to do right? if not maybe this is the time to find one..

And me. But it does get you out and about in the open air, and you get to meet loads of posh, very right wing people with lots of cash, and.....nah thats about it really.VitaminD wrote:why anyone would pay good money to chase a ball across an oversized lawn is beyond me.donkey tugger wrote:Actually I was thinking of taking up golf, but the clubs cost too much...

Reintroduce Wolves to the countryside around golf courses. Lots of them. That'd make it a bit more interesting.donkey tugger wrote:And me. Try making pop music.
Ok, you can stop laughing now. Seriously - just listen to MTV and try to copy it as best as you can. don't worry about feeling or integrity or originality - in fact, make it as shallow as possible, make it as ripped-off as possible.
Whenever I get myself in a rut, I just write a few pop songs... suddenly afterwards I have all these musical ideas for my more "serious" music.
Forever,
Kim.

Maybe some burn-out syndrome. Perhaps the best to overcome this, is some kind of danger or "shock" therapy. Go out in a desert for some days without taking with you something to drink or eat, climb on high mountains without a dedicated equipment, swim in the ocean when it´s stormy weather, ... All what will bring you near to suicide will help to love your life and things you liked before again (if it doesn´t go wrong ...
).

I can get creative and produce music, but I just don't feel like it most of the time.
Because:
1. Gee, it's just me who's listening to it anyway (and ok, maybe 3 or 4 kvr members). That's ok when you've done 5 or 7 tunes, but when you've done in the excess of 60 it becomes a bit trivial.
2. Can't find someone suitable to work with. I have been looking for a year now.
3. I Don't actually get inspired by much new music. All my favorite artists have disappointed me lately.
4. The music I listen to seem to be favored mostly by people who's at least 10 years younger than me, hence none of my musician friends have the slightest interest or can give input. It's cold on the top
Oh well, I just get on with it.

Well, I know what works for me when I lose inspiration and can't write music/lyrics/poetry any more. Follow these simple steps:
1: Find an amazingly beautiful woman, but make sure she has almost no interest in you.
2: Fall terminally in love with her.
3: Get drunk and confess your undying love to her.
4: Get laughed at and/or treated like a poor sad puppy.
Bingo! All the inspiration you'll need for music.

try making a track using NOTHING but random parameters, drums, bassline..everything possible.
The lack of free choice will aggrivate you so bad, the control freak in you will shatter your block.

i just discovered this thread, and im bitterhappy too see its normal to have periods of burnout.
It made me depressed and nervous, when i noticed i just could not find any ideas anymore or feeling apathy. Firing up sequencer, fool around for 30 minutes and close it back down due to awful result..
or sometimes nothing for months.

I think it was the philosopher Archimedes I'm not sure, but anyways, one of my favorite story/parables was about:Timbre wrote: It made me depressed and nervous, when i noticed i just could not find any ideas anymore or feeling apathy. A king wants a crown made of gold. he gets the crown maker & gives him the gold to use, & says if it it's 'stepped on' or cut, he's gonna chop off the f**ker's head. Then the king realizes he's got no way of finding out if he gets ripped off or not. So he summons his cousin, Archimedes, the famous mathematician & tasks him to find a way to prove that the crown is pure. He also promises to remove his head if he can't figure it out.
So, for obvious reasons, Archimedes starts brainstorming & pacing & getting nowhere fast. He can't come up with a test to verify the gold's weight.
Finally, he gives up & decides to hit the bath house, as he doesn't have much time left on earth, & he wants to relax while he can.
As he lowers himself into the water, he pays attention to how he displaces the water & BANG! He figures out how to wiegh the crown by displacement.
The crownmaker loses his head for stepping on the gold, too.
Point here, is ya just gotta walk away from things once in a while. It all comes back around, it's just easy to cut a groove in your brain & eventually it gets too deep to see out of unless you get out of it entirely.
phew..breaktime.
