cmon guys, dont get off task, we're flaming here.

Looks great for live performance, I plan on getting one if they retail for sub 1K. The robustness is worth it to me.

I do expect muse to not do well with it financially though :(

All good, Squids.

My concerns are how it would perform under less than optimal conditions, as in:

running a plugin that may do wonders to a signal, but is not code optimized, or written in a buggy manner. There's a boatload of esoteric plugs I love using, but on occasion they crash just about every host I put em through.

I fail to understand how this rack unit can overcome that if it's a limitation in the plug's code. The device cannot compensate for errors in coding, or I understand less than nothing..even if the re-boot time is zilch, it's still gonna kill a solo if it bombs..that only needs to happen once if you know what I mean..

You think right!
Also, you had a good point Sickle about the "is it crash proof" question. One of the things I heard about the Receptor is that because it's OS is not Windows if it did crash it reboots in seconds instead of minutes. I saw this at last NAMM. It was cool. Like I said, I'd use it live instead of my laptop and it IS at least more beer proof than that I am sure!
It's a Linux OS with a layer Muse Machine to run VST.

It boot around 10 secondes, and if it crash, you can restart exactly on the same point that you was before crash.

If you want reset it, you can triple push buttons power.

It's retailing for 1399 or so.

Too expensive, unless it has some SERIOUS power under the hood.

Id pay 1K for the robustness, portability and concept... but that's my limit.

[quote="SpIdErWeB"] Ok, if you have already bought almost all plugins (or all perhaps) of Receptor, you don't want buy them twice. But, this is more a problem with licence of software, because you can't resell them... It's not (IMHO) a problem about the price of Muse Receptor.

Thats the thing you see, im wondering how much the VST's are bumping up the price of the hardware :?

Im guessing an empty version wont happen. They pay companies for Receptor converted versions, so they have to sell them as a package. Is that right?

Post

I also see it's only stereo i/o for fx.

How crappy :(

Supposedly in an update it iwll be multi, but only with an update and another purchase for an external box.

Its getting less cool the more I find out about it.

I dont think so.... Ive already met a few (4) developers not happy with muse at all...

I dont get this.

What os does it use, what cpu and can it crash?

Why not build yourself a mini pc and with a better spec just to run vst's, cose thats just what this looks like. Building you're own would cost a fraction of the price and would be upgradable.

It may be good for live performances but, hell, most of us are "bedroom pc musicians" and dont care about the live bit.

Perhaps it wasnt produced to be a success :!:

You cant beat people up then have them say "I love you"

Linux, no idea, yes.

Build your own computer... add keyboard, mouse, monitor, audio interface, midi interface (maybe), PAY for a new windows version...
You're looking at the same price as receptor for similiar quality.... mac isnt even an option price-wise.

There are A LOT of performers out there, kvr-vst.com is not the place to meet them. This is where you go to talk to people who DONT want this stuff. Weird muse picked kvr huh? The very place that will reject this "technology" more than anywhere else because we all are aware of similiar "better" options

You know of course that you can setup your own linux box that boots in seconds, auto starts the sequencer etc... and hosts vsts easily... *cough*

I'd RTFM if it didn't crash f**king Acrobat..

Hi Guys

While I'm not officially with Muse, I did do Multi-presets for it, and have the unit sitting next to me. I like the fact you can use it without a monitor or mouse...just dial in stuff, but by adding a mouse and a monitor, or use the same monitor your PC is on ( it has software so you can see the muse screen on your PC desktop) you can see everything visually. Some excellent free plugs are here including Crystal which I really exploited in my multi-presets.Lots of SE plugs too and Big Ticks freebies. Love the Big Tick delay.

I also use it as a real time guitar processor...you can get excellent distortion warp effects as well as clean sounds.

While I have a beta unit next to me, I heard that they have increased the processing power, and just saw on the web site it's shipping with 400.00 worth of software! Now THATS an incentive! I also heard you can install your own ( free) plugs..like the SE stuff ( Motion, WOF, ect) . But they test every plug that goes on it to make sure it won't crash. So if you install your own, you are taking a risk, but WHY NOT!??

I would not bypass this, but check it out come Aug 23.

Funny thing: Aug 23rd is my wifes and my anniversary :-)

My PC is better than that, by a mile, and cheaper. I'll stick to windows for a few years thanks.
Exactly. I'd rather buy a heavy duty industrial rack-mount computer case and put my PC in that.

Thanks for the input TC..I'm really considering it as a multi-fx proccessor for guitar & considering everything else one can use it for..I'm just concerened about quality control issues from 3rd party & how that would be maintained..

I'm assuming that they would have a list of all compliant & tested plugs, & I think I saw something like that on the site..(plugorama..?)

Some ppl can't be bothered assembling a Frankenstienian PC to do what this does; I'm one of them. If it runs good & intergrates well with an existing DAW I'm all for it.

If only I could get this f**king manual to finish opening..

Question:

How is this going to implement instruments like Reaktor, Vaz, & Tassman? I would be REALLY bummed out if I couldn't use Reaktor ensembles on this device..as a matter of fact, that's a selling point issue for me here.
