for all the iLok disapproval, I've never had a serious issue with it. Way back when it was slightly less slick, but now they make it pretty easy to register. And I also no longer have 'the fear' that I might lose the USB stick and with it all my licenses.

I think machine licensing is great for demos, and I might use it if I had a laptop.

I think if people were having hard drives fail and losing licenses - we would definitely be hearing it non stop. Anecdotally, I think you'd be ok. If you have three hard drives fail in a week... well.... that would probably be more of a challenge.... :hihi:

Wow, 1000!

Does someone have individual licenses for a large set of plug ins?

Ok, this was the result of no coffee this morning. Sheesh. It's actually 200, and many of them activated as part of bundles. Also some of those licenses are sample set licenses.

That‘s encouraging.

Has anyone had experiences with getting new licenses from Sound Toys, Eventide and Avid ?

My only negative experience with iloks was a dead iLok 2nd generation. Had to send it in to get all my licenses, plus a $50 fee. My old ilok 1st generation still works as does my current 3rd gen metal ilok. Luck of the draw. Other than that, it‘s been fine.

Apple replaced my macbook mobo without warning many years ago and Sound Toys was one of the companies i had to email regarding depositing a new license of my plugins, no problem. The good thing about this macbook is that any cloned hard drive seems to work with iLok flawlessly, ie if shit goes sideways i can use my backup clone and not need to contact 30 different plugin developers requesting new licenses. touch wood as they say

Something that has not been mentioned yet:

You typically don't have to. Typically, it is a semi-automatic process where you only need to make a location reset request to any one vendor and all the others subsequently receive the request automatically - unless the vendor chose not to play along.

And out of all the vendors that are iLok-bound I have plugins from, there is only one, who isn't game. (It's the one who by default only offers single-location authorization and if you need a second one you need to beg for it and have bizarre conversations over the course of days (or even weeks?) about it before it's granted, who charges good money for what's basically mere service-updates on plugins that did not receive any new feature for a decade or so - I talk about Wave Arts, of course)

This I can approve. You have to request an activation set back to one vendour. And normally all others set back then the activations, too. I am not 100% sure, but as far as I remember you can not request a set back on a single machine or stick. Thus you loose all your activations and you have to activate all from zero again. But nevertheless it was pretty uncomplicated.

No, it is per location indeed.

sound toys replaced what I asked for from them. they were free licenses at that

if I buy plugins with copy protection other than a serial (much peferred) I only buy plugins that allow at least 3 activations (be it iLok or something else): 1 for my workstation, 1 or my notebook and 1 on a stick. This way I can always use the stick until everything is sorted out with he dev companies (if they still exist).

I just decided to remove all plugins that was connected to ilok and never used them anymore. Now each company that is connected to this ilok system makes me to not want buy their plugins no matter what plugins is that. i lok should not exist. it''s a stealing system for peoples who want to sell their plugins after they dont want to use them anymore or want to change their passion. ilok is problem is system of unknown bad peoples to steal from music creators. who and why ? it's just stealing money cancer company like cancer at way between the vst owner and potential interest person who want use these plugins.

i cant ask for serial numbers each time i buy new laptop or replace my actual position. so many serials to ask so much time to wait for these emails and again putting them into ilok to make plugins work again. they only stealing my time and i have nothin with that only pain in ass. thsy should pay me each time they want new serial numbers when i buy new laptop cause they ilokers makes that problem not me. this is tottally nigthtmare that why i decided to not go anymore into plugins like soundtoys, mcdsp, air etc...u. i was about to buy soundtoys plugin but stopped totally after try outs to use their basic radiator and vocal plugin with ilok....this is nighhtmare.

nice company allow to transfer license. cancer company not allow for that and this ilok is worst nigthmare cancer stealing toxic company. just bunch useles people that stealing money from music creators who want to use their own plugins or sell them. Money is time and they wasting my time and wasting my money. avoid ilok plugins for all cost is my recomenndation..

ILOK its just cancer to wipeout https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.ilok.com

Guys please. Maybe lets create a list of plugin companies that using this scam-system. this system makes people to love torrent sites even more instead of this cancer attached to plugins - YES after buy.

for example as i know companies that not really sems to respect users cause attaching this cancer to their plugins are

SOUNDTOYS
AIR MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
MCDSP
EXPOTENTIAL AUDIO

As far i know - avoid for all cost. Dont get me wrong. Plugins are great but with ILOK are unusable.

Oh wow. I really like my little iLok tumours. I have two, a 2nd and 3rd gen. I never hesitate to buy a good software tool even if it uses iLok. Totally into this kind of cancer! Cancer. Funny thing to call a decent hardware based DRM system like iLok.

I have iloks running on both my mac and pc. Have been using iloks since the late 90's early 2000's... I don't think I have even had 6 occasions I have had issues in the over 20 years I have had them.

That said I would never put an ilok license on a software authorisation connected to a computer hard drive that will die one day. Dongles Only for me.
