Lot's of reasons
- intellectual maturity ( people are getting better at things )
-The rise of new technology ( zdf implementation around 2008 )

Still using good old FilterFreak, and I'm also a big fan of Goodhertz Lohi.

To be fair, MSoundFactory finally has the FilterFast ZDF module in the newest release, which can take audio-rate FM (even those 20KHz LFOs!) at high resonance without setting off any ear-splitting mini-nuclear explosions
At appropriate oversampling (which can now go up to a ridiculous 1024X) the filter does actually sound very good when FM-ing. By no means Cytomic-level (Drop is still far and away the best digital filter in existence), and quite limited in terms of filter parameters (no slope, poles etc) but a step in the right direction.

Old tech vs. new tech. Anything which came after Zebra also has better filters than it.Dirtgrain wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2020 11:06 pmUrs once wrote here that it occurred to him that he has great filters that could maybe be more widely used. Wish I'd never sold Volcano 2. Nothing quite like linking filters, grabbing the Wacom and playing them like an instrument

Filterscape and Uhbik predate Diva and Repro.Dirtgrain wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2020 11:06 pmUrs once wrote here that it occurred to him that he has great filters that could maybe be more widely used. We're currently updating Uhbik with new tech, and an update to Filterscape this year or next is in discussion, which would also include new tech.

Wrong , melda doesn't even have zdf filters , and let me elaborate on that ( I assume you don't know what zdf filters are )n9research wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 12:01 pmTo be fair, MSoundFactory finally has the FilterFast ZDF module in the newest release, which can take audio-rate FM (even those 20KHz LFOs!) at high resonance without setting off any ear-splitting mini-nuclear explosions![]()
A year ago I demoed I demod MSF and while I was impressed by the overall architecure of the synth , the filters didn't do it for me >
When modulating the filter + high resonance with an lfo into Khz range the filters exploded , I suggested this to the developer to add filter fm .
here's the thread
viewtopic.php?t=525064
His answer was nothing short of astonishing ( in a bad way ) , he said he didn't believe in filter fm in a digital synth because it was not possible and sounds bad (that was a year ago )
HIs words
quote
Have you actually heard about a software that would allow doing that and sounds good?
unquote
These are the words of the developer from 1 year ago , which basicallymeans he wan't even aware of synths/filters like Diva, talmod , reaktor , xils , drop , synthsquad ( oldie ) ..all capable of decent FilterFM
Filter fm in a digital sofsynth have been around since the early 2000 , while they didn't sound nearly as good as we have now , it was possible ..and now wit the new zdf filters , which have been available in reaktor since 2008 ( vadim zavalishin )
I posted him some links to vadim's filter books etc..
So long story short , melda while doing great stuff is not my first choice for filters since the developer has obviously been living under a rock for almost 2 decades , I applaud his unified framework b

Could you point out when MSF got zdf filters in the new release ? ( I would be surprised )
p.s. do you know what zdf stands for ?

Audio input for synths was on top of our list at the time Repro-1 was released. At the time it was deprioritised when people made us prioritise polyphony over classic monotone synth features. It'll come back into the focus again.

Added FilterFast module implementing a few zero-delay filters, useful mainly for filtering with fast modulation.

There is some another freeware filter which i liked once, but forgot name, so, AFAIR in his description was mentioned that he "zdf" too (though frankly i have been not able to catch some palpable advantages from this term yet, in any of filter product, but nevertheless). I remember was some "noise" in dev name.
