Alchemy is God when it comes to synthesis. Unfortunately, it's main weakness in my opinion is actual sound quality itself. Individual oscillators and filters do not sound all that good, especially if you compare to recently released synths. Still, it has it's own unique sound and you can create some pretty incredible sounding things.

this

the filters were awful imo, but it was pretty good for 'out there' soundscape stuff

Indeed. Luckily you don't have to use Alchemy for sounds that heavily depend on that analogue goodness. Though it would be wonderful if you could! Imagine Diva quality oscillators and filters in Alchemy. :droooooooooooool:

Having said that, due to the modulation flexibility, you CAN get Alchemy to sound decent. You just need to do quite many workarounds (like modulating resonance a lot in various clever ways, never letting it go silly and by using the per voice EQ to remove frequencies that go shrill). Also, the internal filters are quite sensitive in how hard you hit them.. most sound designers for Alchemy have seemingly missed this fact. You need to drive them at quite low levels or they get harsh fast.

But yeah.. would be really nice if they updated them again (remember, Alchemy already did update the filters once! Andy from Cytomic helped create the currently available ones).

I do.. and you probably do too but you just don't realize it. :hihi:
Nope I realize I don't need Modulation Madness because my sound design skills are sufficient that everything sits in a mix without the need for modulators modulating modulators with modulation. I don't need Modulation crutches but hey if you do they are there if you need them.... :P

Even the ones from Antti Huovilainen ?

Alchemy's filters sound fine here. Maybe not the best but certainly not awful.

Yes he does. The filters in his ASynth are still some of the finest around. :tu:

Thanks for all of the help and great comments everyone! I did manage to get the Player a while ago with the factory presets so I guess that counts for something. I just would love to get into some of those sounds and really tweak them more than the the bare bones that the player allows, but oh well.

no idea who made them, names don't mean anything, but i recall they got updated and sounded pretty crap in the last versions

no longer installed here....

Not that I use it much but the filters sound fine inside Logic Alchemy. Then again I thought they sounded ok in the later versions of the plug-in. Certainly good enough for the sounds I wanted from it.

IIRC, The filters with HQ in the name are from Andy from Cytomic

My address and personal info still shows in mine, FWIW.

Still installed here and spent time with Alchemy yesterday. I found nothing at all wrong with the filters.

I wonder why it doesn't show in mine then. Shows my name but no longer my address or any other personal information.

Does yours show perhaps social security or something else? Mine just shows 0123456789 and "name@domain" then some other numbers.

How long has yours been installed ? I reinstalled mine on a new DAW in late 2019 I think and installed it on this system yesterday just to see if it still installs and they both show the same things like:

They should release the installers as freeware, as a gesture of goodwill for those windows users and non logic users that they smited.
Nice, a 6 years old post!
