I'll have what he is havingBONES wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 2:53 am It is impossible to make this list because different plugins do different things, so your favourite might work in one situation but will be completely useless in another. If you need distortion at all, you need at least half-a-dozen different things for different purposes.
The first distortion plugin I usually reach for is Tantrum but half the time it isn't up to the job so I have another couple of dozen I'll go through until I find one that works. Sometimes, though, what worked on a specific instrument in one song won't work on a similar sound in a different context so I can't even say with any conviction that Plugin A works for this and Plugin B for that. It's a black art and you just have to go through them all until you get the result you are after most of the time.

Music and sound is a crazy mismatch and matched pairing of so many things. There is no perfect this or that unless you are recording everything with the same settings. Hell even Rory Gallagher couldnt do that

Kombinat, Ohmicide, Trash 2, MSaturator, Decapitator.
And loads of others, as I love distortions. Some cheaper like Screamo from WA Productions.
They all have a use and a place.
Some of the stock ones in Cubase are good for saturation too.

Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

Still getting my money’s worth out of the Waves MDMX, Bezerk and ModRack plugins to be honest. Then there is UA Dent when I want something different. There are others, they are just what I’m largely using at the moment.

Ah yes — you could look for distortion plugins here, but if it is your thing to trawl through a forum looking for threads where loads of people will eventually name most of them, it's… potentially useful I guessVortifex wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 9:41 amIt's still potentially useful for people looking for distortion plugins.

That's true. But you are overlooking the fact that some plugins can be used for other purposes. For example, in that list you will never find the Fuse VQA-154 or PSP E27, because they are equalizers, but they have an incredible saturation section. The same with the saturation section of the Echoboy. That's the value of lists for me, I always find original ideas and tools to try.farlukar wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 10:13 amAh yes — you could look for distortion plugins here, but if it is your thing to trawl through a forum looking for threads where loads of people will eventually name most of them, it's… potentially useful I guessVortifex wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 9:41 amIt's still potentially useful for people looking for distortion plugins.![]()

In the Context of Sound Design:
D16 Devastor
MWavefolder for light "Folding" / analog Feel
Just check out which Sounds best for your Purpose, they all sound (completely) different.

We should definitely make a Thread about "Off Label Use" here.leeleema wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 10:49 amPSP E27 is a damn fine plugfcamp wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 10:31 amThat's true. Softube Harmonics is a great TILT EQ, D16 Decimort + RX950 great Filter Plugins, Godfazer my GoTo spacy Chorus, Harmonic Maximizer great for Balancing and so on... You can even abuse your Phaser/Chorus/Flanger for EQing e.g. Bass Boost. So much to discover here...

I've used that a lot until 2 years ago when I switched to FL Studio
Good to see that Orion is still used by some.

1. Kilohearts Faturator and if I need multiband I just put it in to mutlipass. For the tasks I need it works almost always therefore it's my go to distortion plugin.
2. Hornet Corrosion. When I want my bass sound to have that gritty "pressure" like character.
3. Nimble Kick distortion for kicks. It's technically an instrument but I use it for distorting kicks. That one is another my go to.
