here's something else interesting that just came to us today via email:
Anyway I wanted to say I used Kaleidoscope on the final stage (Stage 6) of my last series of releases which actually simulated dementia starting with old loops, which then go into full confusion
before going into much darker spaces.

The crazy thing is that this series of releases went completely viral this year racking up nearly 6 million views now on You Tube and the same number of streams on Bandcamp.

I am in touch to say that without your software then the release is not what it is, so these tools you create as you well know really make a difference to productions.
This shows off the dark side of KS very well. Super creepy!

We used such dark textures and atonal drones etc for Dead Rising 3 also, which is a "zombie game".

Sad to think some people might actually have to live in this reality for many years, as was the exploration of the above user's project: to simulate the effects of experiencing dementia in old age...

sorry to hijack, but I thought it might be interesting...

Some the Pure Magnetik plugins seem like they were designed for this.

Nobody mentioned sonicLAB Fundamental? That's an obvious one.

Wow. A 6.5h piece of music set to the stages of dementia. Incredible. Thanks for pointing this out. Bought it on Bandcamp for 2x his asking price. Love it. And knowing it uses Kaleidoscope is great! I have Kaleidoscope and its incredible especially with Simon/Patchpool's subscription! :phones: :tu:

Indeed! :tu: Simon's contributions to KS, and to a multitude of other products from many other developers are amazing and invaluable! He is an amazingly talented sound-designer and musician. His work is always such an inspiration!

I love Kaleidoscope. That 6.5h deep dive into dementia is mesmerizing and moving. Thank you for sharing. Also I wasn't aware of Simon's Patchpool. I guess I'll have to subscribe now!

So this is Kaleidoscope as a sound source with no midi input? How do you do that?
Yes. No MIDI input.
Thanks for sharing the details!

The new standalone generative sound creator is released from Boris Kovalev, called EthericFields. Boris was a big part of AlgoMusic, and known well for his own coding adventures, like Ambitron and psyGen.

Follow the readme file steps to get the new app working. A few extra clicks are needed. It's churning out new sounds as I write this, with a few seconds pause between regenerations, blending ambient, industrial, engine-room, and choral qualities in a stream of drones.

( It;s a windows .exe app, but I'm using wineasio, qjackctl, and Jack Timemachine to drive, connect and record the output in the pic. No doubt renewed interest for his previous projects will be hitting sundry forums soon :hyper: Here's a short sample of what arrived, 3 snippets crossfaded for brevity

I suggest just letting it run while being recorded, and note the time of the good parts, so it will be easy to fetch them from a long wav file in audacity. OOH, OOOHH...a good one incoming!!! :tu: Boris, hope you are doing very well.
Cheers

Not mentioned, yet very useful to put on any kind of signal to create some everlasting #drones: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/rivier ... pace-audio

Basically any additive synth is great for drones.

I enjoy a lot of the Dronar Kontakt instruments.
Though sometimes the Little Plate by Soundtoys on infitine setting is simple but effective.
