When I start Mulab 8 (free version) on my (x86_64) Mac Pro, I get a demo/starter project with four racks at the bottom: MuDrum Rack, I Like Moog Rack, A Space Journey Rack, MASTER.

If I click the arrow thing next to the top entry in the "A Space Journey Rack" after just starting Mulab, it opens the front panel for that instrument.

If I then click either arrow next to the preset name at the top of the front panel, Mulab crashes instantly. Every time.

I quickly checked this on Windows 10, works fine there. I can only check it on Mac in about 2 weeks as i'm currently working from a different location, no Mac here. Taken note.

I checked this on a x86 Mac running Catalina and Monterey and it works fine here too. Try a fresh download of MuLab Free 8.8.3 from the MuTools website and move the unzipped MuLab folder to your documents folder. Right Click on the Quarantine Remover, select Open file and then drag both the MuLab app and REX Shard Library bundle onto the open Quarantine Remover window. Launch MuLab and allow access to your Documents folder when the poup window appears. Do not change any other settings. Run the test again and see if it works now.

I'm on Mojave so wondered if that might be the difference, but as I read through your steps I realized I had never run the quarantine remover on the "rex" bundle - only on the application.

I tried the steps you suggested and it worked without crashing.

I then tried running the quarantine remover on the "rex" bundle from the original installation and it still crashed.

Not sure what the difference is, but I have removed the original installation and moved the new one to my Applications folder, then verified that indeed it still does not crash there.

It looks like my original installation became corrupted somehow?

I will continue to experiment over the next few days/weeks as time permits.

I'm glad it works now. I don't know what caused the issue but my guess is that it was a folder permissions thing. I dont remember if, in Mojave, the REX bundle actualy needed quarantine removal but in Catalina onwards it does. I'm sure Apple will make it more difficult for third party apps to be installed outwith the App Store with every major system upate. For info, I have also had similar issues in the past putting the MuLab folder in the main Applications folder. I would suggest creating a separate Applications folder in your User folder if it does not exist already (it may have been created automatically with some other app installation) and move your MuLab folder to this location. MuLab will still appear in the Launchpad so I can't think of any downside to doing this. The main advantage of this is that Apple eases up on the permission requirements for the User folder and it's contents, so adding samples etc. to the MuLab folder should not be problematic.
