HW purchase of the year?

Definitely this one. I thought the 2600 would be my buy of the year, but TBH I've barely used it, whereas I think I've used the Monopoly in literally everything I've done, in all styles. Works obvs well in techno-ey kinda things but surprisingly well in dubby stuff too. I must have wasted hours just dicking around with its wonderful arp just for the sheer fun of it. It's a funny synth - the filter is really nothing to write home about (in fact I'd call it a bit bland), but as a whole synth with all the other quirky bits included, it's so much more than the sum of its parts.

The monopoly is on my list. My hardware purchase of the year was a 6 voice system 100 in dual eurorack cases with a couple of model D s and wasp filters thrown in. Driven by a polyphonic midi to cv stack by midimuso. Endless fun, stereo voicing. To be continued.

I've mulled over getting into modulars - the Behringer Roland ones definitely interest me, but TBH my lack of engagement with the 2600 kinda proved to me that that's just not my thing. It might be in the future - I've got to make myself play with the 2600 properly, cos it could just be some silly mental block that's stopping me. I dunno what it is, because I love making weird noises and...modular must be the dog's dangly bits for making weird noises, surely? And the 2600 looks great with all its lights - I love a good light show. I just can't get into it.

I wasted about a year of my youth doing the same thing with a real one. I remember one time I had a sound I liked so much I didn't change it for about 3 months. I never used it for anything, though, because of it's lack of patch memory. I eventually sold it so I could buy a CZ-101 and never looked back.

I've only made one hardware purchase this year, so it's an easy decision - Erae Touch.



It's actually proven to be better than I had expected. I prefer using it to my Roli Seaboard and it is way more customisable than Roli's Lightpads, so it has them beat, too. The only annoyance is you need the PSU for it, it can't power it over USB.

I have wanted one of these.
But since then it has gone up $200 in my country so i will wait until prices have gone back to naormal price
The DeepMind 12 has also gone up in price upto $300 depending on where i look.

So Behringer is not so cheap these days either compared to what they used to be unless you go for the smaller ones.

I generally keep the Behringer System 100 patched up as a 4 or 6 voice stereo rig. I swap out the filters to either moog or wasp style but I like how I have it wired up and it is functioning mainly as a flexible stereo subtractive synth. I want to expand it a bit more. For the crazier side of modular it doesn't make sense to me financially to put a computer on a eurorack card and basically replicate a good app on an ipad. For that reason I integrate the modular rig with an ipad and interface. . I can capture the audio and midi and run the audio through various digital effects like granulizers and tasty shimmer verbs or drive the rig with an innovative sequencer app.

Man I am so tempted to get the 266 just to have the Buchla faceplate on it haha. I have the Sputnik West Coast Random Source, but for some reason, I really want that Tip Top/Buchla version that just came out..

Wasp filter was mentioned. I got the BWasp and it's serious fun with awesome filters. Unfortunately OSC2 on mine is waaaay out of tune. I was dicking around with it on its own for a while before I used it properly amongst my other stuff. Took me a while to figure out why it sounded great but as soon as I put whatever riff I was playing in to a song, it sounded so wrong. A few times I thought I was doing something dumb and playing wrong key by accident. I think OSC1 is a tad out (can be tuned) but OSC2 is way off.

I'll have to check out the Behringer sw, as it may have a tuning app. And I must check out the exact tuning properly cos I might be able to use the pitch knob to simply correct OSC2 (haven't got round to it, as obvs with a Wasp you tend to play everything with filters cranked up ). Pleased I figured it out...it was doing my head in. You'd think that sort of thing should be obvious
Took me while I guess cos I've never actually had an analogue out of tune. Maybe just lucky, but always had rock solid VCOs in the past (excepting MS10 - 15 minutes before that drifted out of tune, so had to record quick)

The standalone filter by Doepfer goes a bit beyond the Wasp's own. Its got input gain you can crank and drive the filter harder than the Wasp itself can. When that happens, the overtones that come out when you crank the resonance finally bring out 'The Wasp' inside it.

I wonder if anyone's popped a filter in the Behringer yet. I've seen the Doepfer's blow left and right just like the original did. Those IC's crack right in half when it goes haha.
