Scaling is an issue for (older) small unscalable plugins. Are you using any?tommyzai wrote: Tue May 23, 2023 12:20 am Are fonts and scaling an issue with 32 inch 4k monitors on a Mac?
Have you given ergonomics any thought? (screen size vs. distance, height adjustment)

I have a 40-inch TCL 4k TV, and I just ordered an LG 32-inch 4k and LG 34-inch Ultra Wide. I don't have much $, but I am buying from Costco in the USA, which has a fantastic return policy. I will give these three options a spin with my MacMini M2 and a few major DAWs and plugins. Ergonomics is extremely important to me as I have an eye disorder that causes severe migraines and nerve damage in my neck. I cant be straining to see little stuff. I also cant be an inch from a screen....soaking up a boatload of EMF radiation. But i also cant be looking across the room at a big screen or having to turn my head left and right all the time to view tracks, etc. I guess i need to find a healthy balance of size, distance, real estate, pixels, etc

I am curious too.... Can you try any rob papen plugin and see how they rescale?BONES wrote: Sun May 21, 2023 11:32 pm If you go with a 4k monitor you may need to applying scaling, which won't work with every plugin and may cause you problems. I think the ultrawide is a safer option.
It works for me but I only have a 3k screen (mbp).

On macOS scaling is not an issue as it is on Windows.
Scaling is managed by the OS, there is no such thing as HiDPI-awareness to be declared to the OS or host, or various APIs to choose from like Per-Monitor V1 or V2, legacy stuff, or even no DPI-awareness declared to the OS and scaling implemented internally.
(well, there is a sort of "HiDPI-awareness", but it's a wholly different concept and works just differently)
Also, plugins don't have multiple ways to get their scaling factor (on Windows one could indeed get that info from the host or the OS; the VST3 SDK also allows host and plugin to exchange that information, a Windows-only feature).
Apps and plugins are either Retina-ready, in this case they are scaled only if the OS global scaling is set to anything else than default, but that just works, or they aren't (very few aren't and in that case they are just upscaled and look blurry).

No scaling issues in Logic, afaics. The 32” LG monitor is perfect for me, though I use it @ 1440. My eyes aren't great in my dotage, but everything on this monitor is fine.
