i Just bought a MacMini and looking for a monitor under $300 that is a good fit for DAW, editing, plugins, and linear tracking. I was trying to decide between:

LG 34-inch Ultra Wide
LG 32-inch 4k

They are the same price ($299) but a DAW tech support staff just told me he is happy with his 50-inch TV, which got me thinking . . .

Any thoughts on:

1. 4k
2. Ultra Wide
3. TV

Thanks!!!

Note: I revised topic and question to be clearer and more specific. Some of the earlier responses might seem a bit random as a result.

Does refresh matter with audio editing.....AutoTune/Melodyne/etc. Thanks for any advice. I haven't bought a 3rd party monitor since the late 80s. 🤣
Any monitor works, yes, no.

Secondhand Apple Thunderbolt Displays can be found very cheap these days and are still excellent monitors (we have 3 in our household). Add a TB3>TB2 adapter and you’re golden.

I bet they are still way more expensive used than a brand new non-Apple monitor.

To answer the OP's questions - of course HD is good enough resolution, it's what almost every software application is designed to be used at. If you are buying anything less than a 27" screen, HD is absolutely the way to go. HIgh refresh rates are for gaming, they don't matter for anything else.

You can get a good monitor for not much more than US$100. e.g. This Acer monitor has a curved screen and it's Au$190, which is about US$120. But you can buy pretty much anything from Samsung or LG and not go wrong.

Me needeth monitor to see tracks, waveforms, etc

Pretty well any monitor will do. It doesn't have to be any particular specs for music. One of the few areas you can really go cheap and not make much difference. Bigger is better obvs, and yeah, 1080 is fine.

Curved good or not good?

Post

32" Curved was what I used before my 49". From 32 I personally would go curved with
wide screen.

i returned the curved screen thinking it would not be good if/when away from monitor. I also have eye issues and worry the curve w b a difficult adjustment. I found a 27-inch LG (27MN60T) IPS/borderless/wall mountable/1920x1080. Will that do the job?

Yes.

Will DAWs fit ultrawide screens smoothly?

Is AMD Freesync needed or something for gaming?
