According to the guy in the video (at 39:49), the plugin will be free for Montage M owners. He makes no mention of the plugin being sold without the hardware.

Arturia released the Minifreak V to the hardware owners only initially. Could be Yamaha would be doing something similar to give the owners of the hardware the feel of exclusivity.Teksonik wrote: Tue Oct 10, 2023 7:07 pm Now that doesn't mean Yamaha won't limit the plugin to Montage hardware owners but the blurb does make it sound like an actual softsynth.
Since Yamaha is tight with Steinberg this last decade or so, I have a ray of hope they might be able to pull it off.

True. No one here, me included, mentioned if it will be offered to non Montage owners or not.Frantz wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 5:27 am According to the guy in the video (at 39:49), the plugin will be free for Montage M owners. He makes no mention of the plugin being sold without the hardware.
A standalone plugin exists, and hopefully and logically new users will be able to procure a license.

I'd be surprised if Yamaha released a plugin version to non Montage owners...even at Spectrasonics prices!
It does show that Yamaha has successfully developed plugin versions of their AWM, FMX, and ANX engines though. Perhaps we'll see the same for cheaper synths like Modx. It would be cool if Yamaha developed individual soft synths for each of their engines.

Agreed. I believe this will be to AN1x what FMX is to DX7.EvilDragon wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 12:04 amI am not sure this will sound exactly like AN1x. They have expanded the engine, they say it's "newly developed", now it has 3 oscs per voice, while AN1x had two. I think this is going to be a whole different animal...
It would be interesting to see, whether or not in the future they will support patch import of the original AN1x.
DX7 import wasn't initially covered by the Montage but came up with v2 firmware update if I remember correctly.

Yeah that remains to be seen. I think it's too different, but let's see.

MODX is the same engine, with some disabled features.db3 wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 7:32 amPerhaps we'll see the same for cheaper synths like Modx. It would be cool if Yamaha developed individual soft synths for each of their engines.

The MODX has exactly the same engines and capabilities of the Montage. Recently with the release of the MODX+ also the same amount of polyphony and user memory.db3 wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 7:32 am I'd be surprised if Yamaha released a plugin version to non Montage owners...even at Spectrasonics prices!

I do hope that, if they ever decide to sell software to non hardware owners, for the fully fledged Montage M plugin and not an individual engine because the whole point is a mixture of options in a single performance while you're still able to use a single engine in a performance, when you wish to do so.
Most important thing, hopefully we can get more polyphony on PC vs. 128 for AWM2 + 128 for FMX / 16 for ANX.

They've mentioned the initial simplified "player" version of "ESP" (Coming around Jan 2024) will be free to Montage M owners.Frantz wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 5:27 amAccording to the guy in the video (at 39:49), the plugin will be free for Montage M owners.
AFAIK They've made no mention of whether the more advanced (fully editable) version (coming Spring/Summer 2024) will be free for Montage M owners. Unless Yamaha explicitly state this somewhere then I would say it's wise to assume they'll charge Montage M owners for this version..
It'll also be interesting to see if it uses Steinberg's licensing system. Doing otherwise would tend towards indicating a greater degree of separation, between the two companies, in terms of how they operate.

I'm not hopeful about this particular thing tbh.tristan- wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 8:12 amMost important thing, hopefully we can get more polyphony on PC vs. 128 for AWM2 + 128 for FMX / 16 for ANX.

Like I said - I quoted the Yamaha site. Nothing to do with your post really.tristan- wrote: Tue Oct 10, 2023 10:03 pmI never stated it being available to buy. I wrote "we're yet to see". Anything wrong with my post? I wrote that they release a standalone VST. Would you prefer my post deleted? Am I misinforming anyone?
I have no interest in the ESP anyways. I'm more than happy with Halion.

Totally understandable.D-Fusion wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 11:26 am Spoke to Yamaha and they said it will only be given to Montage M Owners for free![]()
How would Yamaha ever sell $2000 hardware by releasing couple hundred or even 500 dollar plug-in available to all…
