Maybe we'll get a comparison video with the original soon. But anyway, the emulation really sounds great to my ears anyway.christian f. wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 6:33 pm The OB 1 is the best and tightest sounding mono synth I've ever heard and owned. I'm not sure (yet) if this is the best sounding vst.
A big strong point of the OG is it's crazy fast envelopes which I didn't hear back in the plug in either.

Sounds really nice but it is surprisingly hard to look at for long, even expanded to fill more of my 27" 5K monitor. I'm not a fan of white text on a black background to start with and it's very cramped.

The destinations in red for AT and velocity are hard to read, and the key-arp/seq print is almost unreadable.
The sound is fantastically gorgeous though. I'll be getting it even though I've got lots of their stuff already.
edit - got it. This one can get all gnarly and snarly as well as smooth and creamy.

I was really hoping they’d do a 12. Maybe someday. Arturia might even get around to upgrading theirs.

I was lucky enough to design some sounds for this and it’s absolutely one of the best soft synths I’ve ever heard. This, OB-E, and Axxess are top level if not next level stuff. The sheer scope of sounds from a relatively simple synth bears witness to that, though the X sections do elevate it more. But the basic sound and filter are incredible really.

I'm always puzzled about new software trying to sound like old hardware. This one seems to appeal to a kind of electro-punk sensibility of "if it doesn't kick you in the balls, what good is it?" Sounds solid but not that interesting to me.

Tried the demo, bought it.
I love these 'simple' old school synths, they just click with me. They all have an individual flavour, and diff devs offer diff options, so you are never stuck with the old limitations (as uhe learnt very quickly
)
Like Axxess, this is a gem, not so keen on the other obie stuff tho.

Old hardware is expensive and breaks down.buffalo roam wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 8:18 pm I'm always puzzled about new software trying to sound like old hardware.
While skeuomorphism can go too far (like this one), I find it easier to get in the right headspace to work with a plugin for a gnarly 'analog style bass' with something like this over Pigments or Avenger. As powerful as the Pigments/Falcon/etc. type of synths are I rarely find myself psyched to use them.

If I'd put Pigments VA up against OB-1, Pigments would sound absolutely wimpy and gutless.miloszz wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 8:32 pm .... I heard it right away and just actually compared them side by side and I give it a 2/5 for emulation.egbert101 wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 6:43 pm Maybe we'll get a comparison video with the original soon. But anyway, the emulation really sounds great to my ears anyway.
The OB 1 is a very simple synth and the power is in the pure and raw sound of the oscillators, filter and the tight snappy envelopes. This emulation offers none of that.
The OBX emulation on the other hand is very good and I even prefer that over the OBX8.

Mate, in '96 you could get a decent hooker, one with all her own teeth, for half that down here.

I'm playing with the demo and it sounds great, but I'm getting weird behavior. For instance, when I'm playing the preset "Bladerunner," I'll be playing along just fine and then all of the sudden hit a note that's got a crazy amount of LFO on the filter cutoff. Is that some demo restriction thing?
