Why did you choose Bitwig Studio over Ableton Live as your Main DAW ?

I prefer Bitwig because of its much more focused and organized browser view and excellent MIDI tools. In addition, I find the "Session View" much better designed as a mixer section, and the latency compensation is simply more precise and transparent in measurements compared to Ableton Live. I just hope that Bitwig manages to release a solid, stable version 6. It's absurd and unprofessional to claim for over six months that everything is in "Beta."
There must be a lot of problems in the release cycle.

They aren't claiming it's in beta... it is in beta.tompisa wrote: Wed Feb 11, 2026 5:38 pm It's absurd and unprofessional to claim for over six months that everything is in "Beta."
My perspective is that it's better to stay in beta until it's solid. There was lots of user feedback about the workflow of the new features and there has been a lot of reworking of those features to address that feedback. A lot of progress has been made, and it's steadily rounding into shape but for sure it has been a long beta period.

Though I agree they should take the time needed until the program is solid before release, announcing Bitwig 6 nearly 6 months ago and make people wait this long and eat the upgrade plan, wasn't necessary.

And meanwhile version 5 is not worked on it at all. Where do i pay for? For getting a version 6 what is not stable at the moment? My subscription is valid for only the first version of 6. I would rather have Bitwig to finish of version 5 and implement small improvements.
The subscription model in principle is good but waiting 6 months for a beta version and meanwhile version 5 improvements frozen is not good.
Half a year paid for nothing at the moment.
Hopefully version 6 will be good when stable.
Im experiencing the negative side of the subscription model. Just my opinion, but i will think twice before upgrading my license from now on. No more money from me for Bitwig.

Whether to renew the upgrade plan for a beta version is everyone's own decision. Beta is not stable, and if the developers take it seriously, it will remain in beta until it is stable. That's the nature of the beast. At least, that's my opinion. It would be worth considering whether to make the beta phase public in the future so that they can get a lot of feedback without users having to pay for it. On the other hand, I pay my money every year so that Bitwig remains independent. I don't feel like they're buying big cars with my money.

Yes you are right i was a bit grumpy last night. Im sure Bitwig are not buying big cars too and the company has delivered a great product which i enjoy really much.webmob wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 6:30 am Whether to renew the upgrade plan for a beta version is everyone's own decision. Lets hope they iron out all the problems/bugs soon for version 6.

agreed. I did not upgrade my plan, but I did buy an upgrade voucher during last summer promotion (July?). Glad I resisted the urge to use it when beta 6 came out. Bitwig - due to the nature of the upgrade scheme and a (somewhat) vocal beta announcement with the de rigueur teasers and all that jive - ended up creating a strange and uncomfortable situation for the guys who jumped in early and upgraded (as one would discover) too soon. the cost of half an year is not negligible.Yorrrrrr wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 3:59 pm Though I agree they should take the time needed until the program is solid before release, announcing Bitwig 6 nearly 6 months ago and make people wait this long and eat the upgrade plan, wasn't necessary.
this should´t happen again, and has too be thought out.

BWS "rewenal" is realy fair... If i dont want "pseudo-new-Feutures" ...
i can skip-skip-skip versions "id dont need (in my meaning)...
BUT i can UPRGADE from eg. 6.9 to 10.01 with just one REWENAL...
I think, thats FAIR (and it shows BWS... wich UPDATE ist Relevant (Mark will love & buy = fix it) and wich ist just (CEO-Thinking..about "features"....)

Linux. I used to run Ableton Live with a Push controller when I was on Mac OSX but then I switched to Linux (even on the old Macbook pro) and started with Ardour an Reaper. But i missed the workflow from Live and started using Bitwig anmd a Launchpad pro. I think I have found my new tools.

I love Linux aswell but discovered that my fans on my labtop did run crazy compared to Windows so switched back. Linux on the other hand gave me incredible low latency performance even with yabridged windows vst's. I could not solve the fan noise unfortunately, all worked fine but CPU's seem to run hot on linux.
I have tweaked windows in every corner and all seems stable and relatively effective with cpu now. So happy with Bitwig on windows 10 at the moment.
Sometimes i tempt to use Ableton but after 2 song attempts/ideas i come to the conclusion its far from intuitive compared to Bitwig.
And Bitwig sounds better
i dare not to say but i really think it does. Please forgive me............i think it is because of the gray boring theme of ableton which does believe me that sound is boring maybe. The GUI of ableton is shitty like a excel sheet.
GUI of Bitwig is cool.......

Hi,
This Maybe a bit off topic, but ....
Why some of you chose Linux ?
Does it offer a big advantage, or stability edge over Windows or Mac OS ?
Are most VSTs compatible with Linux ? If not, this would be a big restriction/disadvantage ? What about HW-Drivers, ..etc.
I'm a bit in the dark about this detail. But let's also keep this discussion relative to using Bitwig Studio.
Thanks

Linux is incredible stable and efficient for DAW use. I had no problems with my keyboards arturia/novation/akai and with your audio interface you need to chose carefully. I had a presonus studio 68c and that one run with extreme low latency 64 buffers without any hickup.
For VST's i used Yabridge/wine and i hardly experienced any problems i did use fabfilter/eventide/arturia/sugarbytes/112db/goodhertz and some others. Ans ofcourse you have Uhe which is native linux vst.
For example arturia Pigments with some presets draws my Labtop running windows to 100% cpu. The same presets did run easily on Linux, i did not need to be afraid for CPU drain at all. So i miss Linux really, in my case my fans run loud at home use it was disturbing for me.
And then Bitwig runs great on Linux and is extreme stable. With live situations perfect.
I think it really depends on your Labtop if succesfull with Linux, but Linux is great really. You need to be a bit of an nerd to learn.
This in short.

With Linux, I am the master of my computer, not some company. This means I am not at the mercy of their decisions. However, it also means that I was forced to learn much more about the subject in order to master it. That said, this knowledge gives me a very good feeling in many situations, as I now have a much deeper understanding of digital contexts. It was worth the time investment.Muziksculp wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 5:06 am Hi,

I chose Bitwig largely because of the modulation system, delay compensation, hybrid tracks, and clever things like multi-out VST channels on a single track. And sone other things Ableton didn’t used to have like mpe and nested track groups.
However now that Ableton has improved a bit recently, and has a good system of snapshot recall built in, I’ve moved back to Ableton as I can get by without those nice things from Bitwig, but there is no way to have the snapshot functionality in Bitwig like there is in Ableton and maschine. And that is just too important of a feature. I also think Ableton stock instruments and devices sound much better at this point. Not a big deal as I tend to prefer plugins.
Still have my Bitwig license though in case I ever want to update it, but it’s been a couple years.

Because of this:
I have a midi keyboard with 8 assignable knobs and this completely changed the way I can create. Maybe it's possible in Ableton too, I just instantly bought Bitwig without checking and never looked back, also due to the general modulation possibilities.
