Not really first stop for traditional main stream synth fans.
Exactly. If all you care about is traditional synthesizer sounds that are found in pop music, you can pass on Madrona Labs, but if you want high quality synthesis that’s good for new and experimental sounds, they’re still one of the best.

Really?!?
Okay, so does that mean since I bought it early this years I don't get a free upgrade?
Yes, that's correct.

Also – Aalto 2 didn't happen yet, I cannot see how Aalto 3 would be released this year.

Perhaps you'd better learn to know your software a little bit better and play music, instead of worrying about future upgrades.

For the love of God, I never said anything about Aalto 3. Somebody misquoted me.

God I hate this place.

Yes, you did actually, go back and read your posts. I'm sure it was a typo on your part, but nobody is misquoting you. No need to get feisty.

You're right. It was a typo. I still don't understand who is and who isn't eligible for the free upgrade. My understanding is that if you purchased it within the last 12 months (I did) you're eligible for the free upgrade. But I'm being told no

I purchased Aalto on Feb 25, 2026. That's only 5 months ago. You're telling me that as only a 5 month old owner I'm not entitled to a free upgrade? It doesn't make any sense.

Post

@wagtunes I don't know, but I'd interpret it as you definitely qualify for the upgrade.

Does Madrona Labs ever do sales?

"It doesn't make any sense"??

Since when, exactly, are developers obligated to keep giving you things for free after you've already made a purchase? Is there some law that says so?

As an existing customer, you'll most likely be offered a loyalty discount anyway. But acting as if you're *entitled* to someone else's future work at no cost is a pretty strange way to value the time and effort that went into creating it.

The fact that you bought version 1 doesn't mean the developer owes you version 2. If you think the new work is worth paying for, pay for it. If it isn't, don't.

Until then, enjoy your Aalto 1. It's already an outstanding synth.

Well, maybe ignore the wassocks here and go straight to the dev:

"Aalto 2 will be a free upgrade from version 1 if you have purchased your license within the previous 12 months."

So, you're good. :)

If the dev says that those who purchased in the last 12 months are entitled to a free upgrade, then yes, I am just as much as entitled to it as anyone else who purchased in the last 12 months.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

If the dev says that in their FAQ, why coming here to cry in public? :hihi:

Nobody's crying. Somebody told me I'm not entitled to an upgrade and I wanted to know why. Problem is a lot of people around here don't know what the f**k they're talking about and just talk out of their ass.
